Behind the parlament, you can find that statue on a bridge. You have to wait in a line to take a picture with it. Nothing special, but cool to see. There is grocery store in the near.

Very nice monument of a key historical figure in relatively recent Hungarian history - Imre Nagy. He stands resolutely looking at the Parliament building which was the site of him speaking publicly and attempting to lead the Hungarian people to a better, freer life under communism the early 50s. Sadly his efforts led to a sham trial and his execution. You will need to read up before or after your visit as there is no information at the monument site. The monument sits in a small park just off the corner of the parliament green. Worth a stop if you are in the area.

Nagy has a long history in this country and it us nice to see this memorial of him, looking to the parliament building. He wanted to fit into communism but felt for the people it oppressed. A man torn is what I see here. He finally decided to fight the regime and help the anti Soviet movement, but one wonders how they got a hold of him in Yugoslavia, as he had sanctuary there.
This monument takes little time to view and offers a rest of your feet as there are many benches surrounding.

There's a long history behind Nagy and his place in Hungarian history.

After studying him for many years I was pleasantly surprised to see him here.

One of the things you can see in the historic city centre of Budapest is the intriguing statue of Imre Nagy standing on a small bridge, facing the Hungarian Parliament building. The statue is situated around halfway between Parliament and Liberty Square.

Unfortunately, there is no information or plague posted in the area so you'll need to read up in advance of visiting this minor attraction in order to understand what you are looking at.

The Imre Nagy Statue was erected in 1996. It is a thought provoking perspective of the former two-time Hungarian Prime Minister. It shows Imre Nagy in hat and trench coat, staring into the distance in deep contemplation. One wonders if he was considering his own fate prior to his execution by the Soviets in 1958 or if he was considering the fate of the nation under Communist rule.

We enjoyed seeing the Statue of Imre Nagy more than others scattered around the city. It is a honourable gesture to a beloved Hungarian hero and is a monument that can be easily seen if you intend to visit Parliament and/or Liberty Square.
