Its a good shortcut, altought very expensive, long lines, and it takes a while between funiculars. What I did was go by bus/walk and go back by funicular, but only to not waste much time. If you have time to spare, you might as well walk or take te bus.

Queue was somewhat disorganised but the views were worth the wait and they were spectacular - luckily a very clear day. At £3 one way or £5 return, I took the one way ... but great to travel on this historical marvel of engineering!

Its better to take a walk and save money, and also the lady who sell ticket was very rude, she gave me 2 way ticket even tough I asked for one way also like my friend. And than she didnt want to replace it with one way, and I had to sell that ticket to people who were waiting in line and than buy again!!!! Also the drive lasts for 1 minute and its really not worth it.

My second visit to Budapest with some friends this time so odd similar things as before, this funicular is grand and very steep but if you don't like walking or are unable to walking up steep hills it's worth the 1000 florists for a one way trip, a return is 1700. I think if they made if 500 one way say 800 return it would attract more visitors. My advice if your feeling like riding it for riding its sake is travel up and walk down. When you walk down take the main steps to the right of the cafe opposite the Hilton then as you come off the steps at the bottom you will see in front of you a statue on a wall of a man upside down, with this statue on your left shoulder walk across the road and down the steps on your right walk along this road on the right hand side and go down the next set of steps on your right into a little square and keep walking down hill and before you know it your back at the Danube river front on the Buda side.

The siklo took 92 seconds to travel from the bottom to the top and for my family of 4 it cost about £15 for the journey which if we had walked would have taken 15-20 minutes maximum. The woman who showed us to our carriage was grumpy and when I couldn't understand what she was saying in Hungarian became even more grumpier. If you are fit enough, save your money and walk to the top where there are magnificent views of the Danube.
