Yes it means waiting in queue and it's expensive for a really short trip but for me it was worth it! If you want a novel way to get up to Castle Hill then find your inner child and give it a try!! If you have no inner child then you probably should give it a miss. If you're lucky you may arrive at the top just in time to see the changing of the guards, as we did.

When we got to the Funicular there was a huge line up. Since my husband and I are able bodied, we decided to climb up via the paved path to the left of the lift. Half way up the path there is a small staircase on the right hand side which brought us to some amazing views. I would highly recommend walking this way, as the path is completely paved and the slope is not steep at all.

The queue was fairly short on our visit. Cost was 1500 HUF return. Much better than using the steps. Very enjoyable.

With a day of walking from Boscolo to Heroe's Square to the metro last stop to Chain Bridge...I was dead tired and the funicular was heaven sent. Nothing fancy about it just a good resting point.

looks nice from outside :) it's a short trip from Buda side to castle hill.
rated 2 because, after a 15 minutes queue , couldn't hop in because they accepted cash only, and forints only... so couldn't pay using Euro or via debit/credit card...and this info is available only when you'll reach the cash desk.
