This is now my regular place to buy ice cream, and serves the best ice cream in Hungary (by a long way). Typical Hungarian ice cream tends to be very sweet with a slight watery base, but that is not an issue here: the flavour wins every time. There is a wide range of flavours available ranging from the classic flavours to some very refreshing fruits. The smoothness of Mamo’s ice cream has to be tasted to be believed.
Mamo is a small place and run by two Italians who make all the ice cream in the back of the shop. They use the best quality fresh milk and cream in their recipes (you can buy the milk from them if you want): no powdered milk here.
Service is fast and friendly and they are happy to let you have a taster of every flavour before you buy. As well as cones and small paper bowls, it is also possible to buy the ice cream in large polystyrene boxes which keep the ice cream in good condition for at least 20 minutes (the time it takes me to get from Mamo to my home).
