Ave Natura Camping Budapest
Ranked #52 of 674 Specialty Lodging in Budapest
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 30, 2013

It was dark when we steered our car into the campsite. We had just given up on the camp down the road (Zugligeti Niche), which looked like a dirty uninviting parking place. Trying our luck at Ave Natura, we switched the engine off, got out of the car, stretched our bodies, and fell in love with the place immediately.

The campsite is a cosy place with lots of trees and grass (compared to the walled-off concrete spot at Zugligeti). The facilities are just fine. There's a lovely roofed porch for dining and other activities. There's beautiful woodwork everywhere. There's free wi-fi, of course. And then there's Márta, the host.

We only met Márta in the morning: she came to say hi and stuck around for quite a while. She has genuine interest in the people visiting her camp, and fills the place with a warm atmosphere. She gave us a virtual tour of Budapest, stocked us up with maps and ideas, and helped us plan our day. Contrast that with the welcome at the neighbouring Zugligeti camp, where the lady was pretending not to know the price of our stay ("the manager will tell you in the morning") and tried to play down the noise the drinking motorbikers were making ("what's the problem?"). Márta made our day - and so did her camp.

Heck, we will probably visit Budapest again just to be able to stay at that camp again! Don't miss it.

Practical tip: the Zugligeti and Ave Natura are right next to each other. (They used to be one camp.) Don't mistake them: you will pass by Zugligeti first (and you want to PASS BY); you will know it by the two yellow trams forming the gate to the place. Look down and drive on! 200 metres and you're at Ave Natura. See you there :-)
