We just had lunch with our children at SAL Salad and else restaurant with our children today. It is located on a quiet street near busy Vaci utca right by the Duna korzo in the center of Budapest. They make all their salads to order. You can choose between their suggested combinations or can choose your own ingredients. We had the grilled vegetables salad. The grilled vegetables were tasty, the mixed greens super fresh and crisp and the flavor was nicely complemented by the sun dried tomatoes and the honey-Dijon dressing. Our children loved the pressed ham and tomato baguette and mozzarella and tomato panini. My mother in law chose her own salad toppings including cherry tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers with ranch dressing, which was very tasty and fresh. The daily selection also included chili con carne on brown rice, ratatouille and two kinds of soups. The owner prides herself in offering health conscious food and quality ingredients, including fruit smoothies made of real fruit, fresh pressed orange juice and fresh vegetables sourced locally whenever possible.
The service was excellent with a lot of attention to our party. The space is nicely decorated with bar style seating by the windows and more seating up a short flight of stairs. The staff speaks English and the menus are bilingual. The bathroom was sparkling clean. The place is a little to hard to stumble across, but is certainly worth a quick detour from the main tourist path for a healthy lunch. Oh yes, the coffee was really good!
