A group of friends gathered for dinner at Macesz Bistro. Well airconditioned against the hot summer’s night outside. Very interesting decor and elements; from a back-lit bottle sign above the bar to very quaint chandeliers comprising of all sorts of crockery piled up to hold candle shaped bulbs.
The menu comprises of traditional Jewish dishes as well as more contemporary selections. We had a selection of starters and shared amongst the six of us; nothing disappointed and we were very glad for sharing as portion sizes are generous, both for starters and mains.
Our choices for mains were broad, from a very interesting presentation and ingredient list for a sea-bass dish (a bit of popped corn on the side), to a very satisfying and indulgent cauliflower puree and duck breast. Perfectly prepared and beautifully presented.
The wine list did not disappoint either. Prices are a little high but quality makes up for all of it.
I mentioned portion sizes already and with them being so generous, we simply could not fit in a dessert after, how ever tempting the baklava looked. A few dessert plates passed our table and I am sure they were met with very happy smiles at their table of destination.
A slightly older crowd than the rest of the party district; a sophisticated yet not pretentious ambiance. Everyone around us seemed to be very happy too!
I would definitely make the effort of booking a table again. Don’t risk walking in without one because they won’t be able to seat you. Macesz Bistro seems to be pretty popular and they deserve to be.
