Description: Kompot Bistro opened in the summer of 2012 a recently rebuild district of Budapest, Corvin Promenade. Since the beginning, we place great value to both the appearance and the taste of the atmosphere of the bistro. Our menu includes international gastronomic specialties as well as traditional Hungarian dishes. It is extramely important to us to work with high quality ingredients, and our chef pays attention to every little detail when it comes to choosing the right one.Given our name, we are the first restaurant in the city, where our guests can enjoy compote served on the side dishes a variety of flavors, made of fresh fruits! We also focus on the quality wine consumption next to the homemade compotes, lemonades and fruit syrups. As a result, we organize wine events from time to time where you can taste wines from famous Hungarian wineries, and enjoy the matching delicious five-course dinner.

“Excellent!”

Stumbled across this place by accident and due to a misunderstanding with the waiter ordered the set menu for lunch. This was a 2 course option (soup followed by roast beef) and was absolutely delicious. Unbelievably, the price for this was also under 3 pounds per person - so we booked dinner to sample the full menu. The food again was delicious whilst still being reasonably priced; presentation and service were also excellent and we felt that, whilst concise, there was a good choice of food on the menu. We had grilled haloumi salad and salmon tartare for starter followed by grilled salmon in a butter sauce with veg and an excellent sponge cake for dessert. All this and a bottle of wine plus coffees for 16000 ft or about 48 pounds. If In Budapest again I shall be visiting this place!

“Great food and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

It was our last night in Budapest and we wanted to stay in the area. Since we were staying at Fraser Residence and had yet to check out the bistro, we went. And we are so glad we did. Service could not be faulted and the we all enjoyed our choice of food. It was a warm evening and it was lovely sitting outside. Highly recommended!

“Brilliant - Local Neighbourhood Bistro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

Stayed just round the corner, so went here for convenience. Very pleasant staff, genuinely pleased to see us and very welcoming. Food was excellent. Great Ceasar Salad. Good local specialities. Nice local wines, which the owner took time to explain in detail. Certainly made our visit to Budapest something special. Highly recommended.

“Don't judge a book by it's cover”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

This place looks like a neighbourhood cafe... It's not. A bit austere from the outside.but it's worth a second look. We ate here on our first evening in Budapest , recommended by the hotel which was only a few minutes walk, so suited us fine . The welcome was warm, the food up there with the best...imaginative, attractively served by friendly staff.Great introduction to Hungary.
