We did the full day Danube Bend Tour in May 2013. The tour is a good way to see more of Hungary beyond just Budapest. The tour covers 3 beautiful towns of Esztergom, Visegrád and Szentendre - in that order. The drive from Budapest to these towns is scenic and there are some breathtaking views en route. The first stop is Esztergom - a beautiful cathedral that serves as the of the Catholic Church in Hungary. Since this is on the border of Hungary and Slovakia, you also have an opportunity to make a brief visit into the neighboring country! From there you move to Visegrad - the view really has some nice photo-ops on the way! Here you break for lunch - some nice restaurants right next to the river. Post this, the trip continues to the last town of Szentendre - an artisan village - with wonderful shopping and wine tasting experience. Spend time walking around the cobble-stoned pathways - look for souvenirs and artifacts, eat the local food, drink all types of wine - simply have a great time. And then on the way back, you take a approximate 1 hour boat ride on the Danube - quite charming.
A great way to spend the day!

We wanted to see some more of Hungary and this trip offered just that. It started at 9 am and we were driven by coach out of Budapest to Esztergom. With commentary en route, showing us Roman ruins and places of interest, it was indeed a pleasant 90 minutes journey. At Esztergom you visit the vast 19th century cathedral and can walk across the Hungarian border into Slovakia from a bridge across the Danube. Next, we had a simple Hungarian 3-course meal served on a hillside restaurant overlooking the Danube at Visegrad. Our final stop was the beautiful town of Szentendre, for museums, churches, shopping or a beer! From here we took a boat back to Budapest by 6pm. Lovely day! (I would suggest you check the weather though).

We did this with Eurama, we were a little disappointed to fin the boat ride does not start until 01 May, but they gave us free tickets for a hop-on hop- off boat trip that we can do any time. The tour was excellent and lunch was very good and the view from the restaurant was wonderful. Both guide and driver were called Lazlo and were good.
