This is a must experience place. Be sure to get the tour headset. It is important for adults and teens to see this site. Unforgettable!

I was very excited to visit this museum. Im a WWII history buff and do everything I can when I visit anywhere to go to their WWII museum. The let down started at the front door where the door man was extremely rude in his management of the line. Then as we entered the museum we were told that there was no English audio guide. Ok no problem, most of the exhibits have English translations. No- the replacement was paper essays at the doorway to each room of the museum. Literal essays. While everyone else had an iPad with pictures and proper explanations. It felt like a let down. Too much to read and it was not clear what I should be looking at and how it related to the stories in the essay. By the time you finish the museum you are holding a small novel. I was not impressed.

So very disappointed in this museum. For an English speaking tourist, it is a very painful experience. All of the exhibits are in Hungarian only, with A4 pieces of paper in the corner with limited information written in English. However, half the rooms seem to have forgotten to re stock the English papers, so we had no idea what stories the rooms were trying to convey. The audio guides were also unavailable for our visit so we were more or less walking around looking at pictures.

The biggest terror of the museum was the staff. They were very unfriendly and intimidating. I’m not sure wether this was on purpose or not...

For the 3,000 we paid per ticket, we would have been better off just looking at Wikipedia. This museum needs to get with the times.

Avoid.

There is nothing to enjoy at this museum, the site of more torture and death than one can imagine. The history lessons here are important for all. Hearing a former worker describe the protocols for execution like it’s just a job is haunting....and yet it’s important to hear this first hand. The museum is a bit confusing. One begins on the top floor and winds downward ending in the basement torture and death chambers. Lines form early.

The House of Terror Museum is incredible... and sad and terrifying and heavy and difficult. It is an amazing opportunity to learn about and witnesses the horrors suffered by the Hungarian people.
