“Dark history! Do visit!”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

This museum is located at a former dark place in the history of Budapest (during and after WWII)
Its exhibition shows the part of WOII with the Nazis but also the period after that with the russians.
I must say it was very impressive and informative. You can take a audio tour also.

“Shocking”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

The museum shows what the residents endured under Germany and Russia. Very sobering and tragic, but it must be seen and not forgotten. A must visit when you are in Budapest.

“An absolute must!”

If you visit Hungary and want to know all about it's history, then you have to visit. It's not a scary terror museum as people expect - its more a history museum with some stories and visuals that will take your breathe away!

“It is important not to forget”
Reviewed June 11, 2014

There is a very sobering video clip as you queue for tickets showing a survivor of Hungary's terrible past at the hands of the Nazis and then the Communists. He says it is important not to forget the past and this museum enables visitors to appreciate the awful experiences of ordinary Hungarians. My wife bought an audio guide whilst I read the printed handouts available in each room. Like many museums there is a lot of information but you can concentrate on specific exhibits very easily. There were several student groups at the museum which makes it quite packed in certain places but I would suggest that you should consider visiting the House of Terror irrespective of this. It gives the visitor a better understanding of Hungary's recent past and is an important place. It is important not to forget.

“Dark - but necessary”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

If you want to understand Budapest today, you have to go to the Terror House. It tells the story of one of the most defining moments in the country's life and the permanent exhibit is one of the best curatorship works I have ever seen. Watch out, though - it is not for people who don't like History or are looking only to visit cheerful places only.
