Owner description: A museum devoted to various historical terror regimes and practices.
Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

A real insight into the nazi and communist regimes and the pact it had on the people of Budapest.

A cross between a museum and exhibition - very interesting but not for the faint hearted - really made you think about what life for these people was like.

Very busy and crowded even late afternoon.

I learnt so much at this museum, it really was a good place to visit! However it's a shame that lots of the exhibits don't have an English explanation, so you can look at letters and other personal artefacts without knowing what they are. There is a lot of information written on sheets of paper in English in each room, which is really informative. It would just be nice too know the details about all the little items too.

This museum is very evocative and a stark reminder of how horrific recent history was. What should not be missed, and often is, however are two 'exhibits' outside in the street. One is a piece of art which is a representation of the Iron Curtain made from rusty chain links. The other is a piece of the Berlin wall with a plaque that has a very moving message. Don't walk past this lump of concrete - it is important!

The Museum was well made, the exhibits are amazing and very intense and shocking sometimes. I really liked the A4 papers put in each single room, so you can grab one, read something about it and just put the paper back... Great, easy and inexpensive way to save resources.

The torture cells are a little shocking if you can understand what they were there for (for example, in one of the cells, they placed the prisoner in a very tiny space in which he could barely move his hands and was unable to sit, and they would also put some lighting directly into his/her eyes and just leave the person there for some days).

Truly great experience to visit this place that housed the Hungarian nazi party and the communist party offices. The first room is quite impactant: loud rock music and black and white newsreel clips of nazi/communist exactions in Budapest is going to leave you awestruck. The whole museum is very tastefully designed (amazing maze!!!) and has fact sheets available in each room for english-speakers. At 2000 HUF, it's not a cheap museum, but it's without any doubt the most interesting one in the capital.
