The story of this place is interesting and obviously moving but there is an information overload via a4 pages full of tiny text explaining seemingly irrelevant detail.

I say this is not for kids simply because they would definitely be bored.

However if you are interested in the holocaust and history then its worth a trip for sure.

As a History teacher I have visited many museums, but few as great as this.

A brilliantly curated museum, with a modern and interactive approach that guides you through the exhibits effortlessly. The whole museum is incredibly atmospheric and makes each exhibit really tell a story.

A must see.

We arrived at the ominous looking building and decided to enter. We paid and straight away weren't told on the way to go, we weren't offered an earpiece to commentate and explain anything, so didn't really understand much of the experience. Upon arriving at a lift. We were told it would be a couple of minutes by a young lad,so we waited patiently. As we were waiting a couple of young ladies tried to go the lift and were told the same thing. They then stood directly in front of us. As the lift opened we walked in front of the girls and were then laughed at by the staff. We finished the dire experience and thought we would mention this to their reception desk. The woman behind the desk just said Oh and that was it. We then asked for her name and she refused. We then asked to make a complaint and she refused to let us do so.
I have never met such rude people.
Do not go if you aren't a local, the whole experience left us feeling angry.

My boyfriend and I had planned to do this before coming to Budapest as we are very keen to learn about the country we are visiting's history.
After going to Aushwitz, we knew we would be in for a chilling experience here at the House of Terror, but we also believe it is important to make sure the past is not forgotton - however unpleasant it may be.
There was plenty of handouts for us to read and it was very well laid out and presented.
I would definately recommend it.

The house of terror is located on Andrassy (one of the main streets) and is worth a trip. It tells the story of a network of effectively prison and torture headquarters during the war. Parts were quite moving, but I think this is part of the experience. Very informative with wirtten information.
Only negative is that a lot of the information and artefacts were not translated into other languages, so unless you read Hungarian, you are fairly clueless about some of the exhibitions.
