If you're in Budapest you shoulg go and see this museum, very sobering and really brings home the atrocities of the second world war and the communist rule once the war ended. Poor Hungarians - they have really suffered. Invaded 31 times and each time they have had to rebuild their city!

Nicely documented history of the events that occurred in this house. Well set up with videos and exhibits, but my comment concerns the lack of English translation while walking through the exhibit. Most commentary is German but they do offer a full page written summary in each room in English. I didn't want to read that much while on tour, and I would have gotten much more if we were able to have narration in English. We did not get the audio tour as the cashier advised us not to. Still, a great exhibit for all to see.

This small museum is a must see for those wanting to understand Budapest's past. And it is a recent past. Atrocities continued until 1960. The museum shows videos of people telling their harrowing stories of persecution and murder, and videos of the destruction and death that followed.
There are relics and a lot of written information you can take with you. The outside walls feature the real life pictures of those incarcerated or murdered. The basement cells are horrifying.
The cost to visit is just a couple of euros, but the emotional memories will linger long after you leave.

This one has to be visited, even though it's a really depressing subject. The museum layout, design, and content is extremely well done, and although some is Hungarian-only, English-speaking visitors get a lot of content too and I'd recommend allowing at least two hours. It's a really sad and moving place but educational and important to experience.

Very interesting, to walk through & see the history was moving. The basement was the eeriest part. Would highly recommend to put on your "see" list.
