Attended the Hungarian Grand Prix with my son and stayed at this wonderful hotel for 3 nights. The art deco reception area and restaurant are brilliant. Staff really helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The décor in the bedroom was a bit 'tired' as has been mentioned on other reviews, however it was clean, the beds were extremely comfortable and the air conditioning worked a treat especially as the temperatures over that weekend topped 40 degrees centigrade. Well located for many of the attractions in the city. Wouldn't stay anywhere else if going back to Budapest

Dear Mr. David S,

Thank you most sincerely for this super review and thank you also for choosing to stay here in Danubius Hotel Astoria for the Formula One weekend in Budapest. We are delighted that you and your son had such an unforgettable time in Hungary and thank you for recommending the Astoria Hotel to all.
We starve to provide clean and cool rooms in the hot Summer days in the center of the city and are glad that this was to your liking.

We look forward to welcoming you back in Astoria and wish you an exciting race at Hungaroring next year.

Yours,
Laszlo Zsida

Stayed at the Danuvius Hotel Astoria on business in 2012 and must admit that I have only now decided to add a review of the hotel. The hotel itself is splendidly run by attentive staff but you get the feeling that the hotel has been passed by by all the newer Budapest attractions as it is at least 30 minutes walk from the Danube and the more glamorous more modern hotels. This shouldn't put off the holiday or business traveller but does need to be taken into account. The hotel is in need of modernisation and whilst there is no mistaking the charm of an older establishment, the room I was in lacked many of the modern day conveniences that we've grown accustomed to these days.
All in all, the staff, the grandeur albeit faded make this a good base for those perhaps looking for the older charm and are prepared to see beyond the missing luxuries.

Dear Mike H,

Thank you for this wonderful feedback about your stay from 2012. October and thank you also for choosing to stay here in our Danubius Hotel Astoria.

I am delighted that you had such a wonderful time in Hungary’s beautiful capital.

Despite the 60 percent quotation your positive comments are most welcome and I will ensure that this is passed on to all on the team.
I have checked on Google maps the distance to the Danube river and it is literally 9 minutes walk from us.

Thank you again and best regards,

We had a de luxe room on the 5th floor. Room was large and very comfortable and very good shower in bathroom. Although we were facing the main road we were not disturbed by noise during the night.
Staff were very friendly on arrival and very helpful with any queries we had throughout our stay. We were given maps and leaflets on things of interest on arrival, and they ordered us a fixed price taxi back to the airport when we left. We opted to have breakfast included which was a very good buffet.
Location of this hotel could not be better. A metro station next to the hotel, several trams stop at the hotel. Easy walking distance to most places of interest, shops and cafes nearby.
Free wifi is available in the lobby. Was able to get it in the room sometimes.
We had a wonderful stay and will certainly stay at the same hotel when we return to Budapest. Would definitely recommend to others.

Room Tip: Room on higher floors - less street noise

It's true that when you entre the hotel, it's beautiful and the people working at the front desk are very helpful. But we were at room 202 (if I still remember) which was right infront of the main road and the noise was just unsupportable. Ever 2 minutes ambulances, or fire brigade vans passed non stop, later while walking around we discovered that there was a fire station close to the hotel and we found that room was rather small too.
I loved the sound system at the bathroom though :D

Finally, Budapest is BEAUTIFUL. Loved it :)

Dear satchit,

Thank you for your comment on Tripadvisor. I am glad that you loved our beautiful and – as you say – lovely capital.
It is very important for us that you were satisfied with the helpful staff.
We have soundproof windows and most of the guests chose the front side rooms to have the view to the Astoria Square. Some guests sit out the first floor balcony to have a glass of wine watching the busy city life. I am terrible sorry for your bad experience with the traffic noise. The receptionists are always for your disposal to change for a really quiet room on the back side of the building.
I look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to our Danubius Hotel Astoria and we work hard to achieve a higher ratio from you. To reserve a room please drop me a line on laszlo.zsida@danubiushotels.com

The Astoria is an old school hotel and was a lovely base for our Budapest visit. It is centrally located and an easy walk to restaurants, outdoor markets, the Central Market building and more. The subway is right at the Astoria, and local buses are easy to navigate. Hotel staff bent over backwards to make our stay enjoyable--very friendly, pleasant, and generous with information about local sites and directions. Internet in our room was not always reliable, but the hotel offers free wireless in the lobby downstairs, which was a far more interesting and enjoyable online experience. The breakfast buffet was exceptional--egg dishes, sautéed vegetables, fruit, meat, pastries and a full dessert table. Staff were so wonderful and attentive they deserve an extra mention!
