The Danube flows through Budapest with all the majesty of a river that features as the title of songs and music and probably stories as well.
We arrived shortly after the flood level had peaked (June 2013), and we checked on the river daily and watched the fast swirling waters slowly recede back to almost normal levels. Of course, the floods forced all the traffic off the river, until our last day, when we were able, on a balmy June evening, to take an evening river cruise and enjoy the sights of the city from a different perspective - and with all the city lights ablaze.
