If you want to be right in the middle of Castle Hill this is the place to stay. Every room overlooks Mathias Church, Fisherman's Bastion and an incredible statue of some famous Hungarian riding his horse! I have enjoyed the Burg twice including last fall. The staff is English speaking and was very helpful with explaining the bus system, finding us a working ATM and a lift to the airport. Breakfast had abundant and numerous choices. Rooms priced very reasonable. Only drawbacks -no elevator & simply furnished rooms. Major construction on the roads in the area with board walks and detours but will add to the charm when done.

I've stayed in the Burg many times while visiting Budapest. It is located in the heart of Castle Hill and probably has the best location of any hotel in the city. No elevator and the rooms are very simply furnished. The bus comes by every three minutes, and one hears it along the cobblestones, but I find that very reassuring. Prices are rising there--it's no longer the bargain it once was. But it's a great place to stay.

On the Buda side it was a great place to stay and easy and cheap to get to the Pest side via bus right out the front door of hotel. Decent breakfast and very helpful staff. We had a corner room with three large windows with nice view of St Mathias. Would stay there again. Booked through hotels.com

We traveled to Budapest for my husbands work related travels. We ended up getting a room that had two beds. They had keys for their AC units and told us we couldn't have our key till the management said it was hot enough to turn them on. I thought that was a bit strange. If you are expecting to get a laptop in a safe, that won't be happening here. The safe was very small and could barely fit a camera into it.
And as always this is an old hotel so there is no elevator. If you reserve a room on the second floor just keep in mind that will be 4 flights of stairs to climb. I'm not sure about other rooms in this hotel but our's was on the second floor and the view was amazing I have to say. Also, the windows are very big and everyday we opened them and got a nice cross breeze going in the room. It was relaxing. It's a bit noisy during the day being that there is a church right across the street, a huge beautiful fountain, and the beginning of the castle. Lots and lots of tour groups head through these streets. Hotel room was clean and we received breakfast every morning.

This is a small boutique hotel with about 28 rooms. It is in a fantastic location across the square from St Stephens Church and Fisherman's Bastian. You can easily walk to all the attractions in the old section of Buda. The hotel was clean and comfortable and staff are friendly and very obliging. The breakfast is included in the tariff and is quite sufficient.
Hotel is built over 3 levels and does not have a lift. It can be a bit of a struggle with luggage but staff are willing to help. There are a good variety of cafes in the area. We had an evening meal not far from the bottom of the Fisherman's Bastian called Gong. The food was simple but very enjoyable. The hotel direction can give directions.
Overall, considering location, convenience, breakfast and tariff the Burg Hotel is excellent value. This is our second stay and we would book the hotel again if returning to Budapest.

Room Tip: Try and avoid the top floor

With magnificent view over Matthia cathedral and square our stay was spoilt by lack of sleep. Our first floor window was directly above the bus stop which commenced at 4:45 am and continued until about 2 am. Our mid October stay coincided with a relative heatwave meaning we had to open the window.
Breakfast was a bit limited too, but the staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were offered a 5% discount for settlement in cash, to help with a "cash flow problem".

Room Tip: Rear rooms will be quiet but overlook an unattractive enclosed courtyard. Front rooms have great vie...
