“Fabulous Valentine's Weekend!”
Reviewed February 17, 2009

We stayed for two nights and we had a fabulous romantic break. The service was excellent. Every person we encountered could not do enough for us and all were really friendly and polite.

Our room was huge, quiet and overlooking the atrium with excellent facilities. Clean, spacious and comfortable. The location is great, just a ten-minute walk to loads of fabulous bars and restaurants along the famous world heritage listed street, Andrassy Ut. Once we arrived, we walked everywhere to explore Buda and Pest and found it really close to everywhere we wanted to go; the Danube, the castle, the fisherman's bastion, the chain link bridge, st stephens Basilica, the list goes on.

The spa was also excellent and not too crowded. We soaked in the jacuzzi, swam in the pool, relaxed in the sauna and the steam room.... and all at no extra cost to residents, an absolute bargain. We loved it and hope to go again!

This hotel is a true delight. The staff are very professional and corteous, nothing is too much trouble for them. We stayed in an executive room which I would highly recommend, the facilities of the executive lounge are quite amazing. The SPA is one of the nicest I have been to, I can't wait to go back

Been in Budapest for 2 days in a business trip and found this wonderful hotel very appealing! Also the price offered was not even far from the 5 star price so I would suggest and try reserving here because you will not regret it! Tips: wonderful architecture of the old&the new and the free internet, both wireless and wire in the room!

Stayed here for two nights for a weekend break with a bunch of people from work as we won an award. The location is brilliant and the tram stop is directly outside the hotel. We did the whole tourist thing one day and went round the whole of Buda and Pest.

The hotel has one of the best Spa's i have seen and we wasted hours in the whirlpool and sauna's.

The rooms are very large european rooms which all have brand new bathrooms.

If you are going to Budapest and intent to visit a club you have to go to Rio. It is an open roof club and it was amazing.

If you are going to Budapest, you have to stay here!!

We have just returned from a week at the beautiful Corinthia Grand. From the moment we entered the hotel lobby we knew we had made the right choice. The entrance is magnificent with swirling marble patterns on the floor leading up to a grand staircase. All the public rooms are wonderful and a visit to the grand ballroom is a must.We opted for an executive room which was very roomy with marble bathroom, enormous bed and sitting area with sofa, chairs and coffee table - a really comfortable room. The benefits of the executive status was well worth the extra money and in fact if you are travelling on a tight budget this is by far the cheaper option. There was free drinks and food available all day from soft drinks to sparking wine/beer and cocktails in the evening serving branded spirits and champagne. The staff in the executive lounge couldnt do enough for you and immediately your glass was empty they would be there with a refill! I soon learned to drink slower! Breakfast is wonderful and I fully endorse all the previous reviews. This is an exception hotel with wonderful architecture, first class service and extremely friendly staff. We had a wonderful stay and we are planning a return visit next year. One other point dont book direct with the hotel as the price they quoted was double what we paid by booking through excape with us.

I booked us an executive suite for our stay at the Grand Corinthian. When we got to the hotel we were told the hotel pool was closed for it's yearly cleaning they felt sorry about this so they bumped us up to a junior suite. How wonderful our room was all I can say is ENORMOUS and extremely quiet. My husband must of told the hotel we were celebrating my birthday and our anniversary because the hotel sent up a bottle of champagne to celebrate. The executive lounge had a terrific wait staff, always cordial and ready to serve. The food selection was great especially after we came back from a day of sightseeing. The hotel is a good walk from sights but we enjoyed it, took maybe 15 mins. to major attractions. We ate at the Bock Bistro one night it was great. The other nights we ate at restaurants on Liszt Ferenc ter which is just around the corner. There are many restaurants and lounges to choose from.
We would love to return to the Grand Corinthian next time we are in Budapest.

Stayed 4 nigts in a Junior Suite last month and really loved the Corinthia - everything was great, especially the Executive Club which provided friendly professional service and a good range of food and drinks with very generous evening service times from 5.30 to 9.00 pm ! The hotel is well located and has a good range of restaurants , although we only used the bar. Budapest is a fairly compact city so getting around either on foot or using the superb trasnport network was simple. Liked the Royal spa although found the pool a little chilly for my personal taste. In terms of areas to improve there is very little - like others we found the room far too hot and stuffy and did have to open the big main window all day to keep in cooler. Also the shower pressure and temp did fluctuate annoyingly ( the ones in the spa were fine ) but these are minor niggles - its a great hotel and superb value for money . Even with a large corporate function at the hotel all 4 nights we didnt feel that service slipped.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
