I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights during a friend's wedding. The rooms are nice and cozy, quite big, bathroom with shower and bathtub that my daughter loved (she is four). Breakfast is really nice, The Spa is beatiful. The gym, even if small, is well equipped. Romm cleaning is fast and efficient. The staff is very friendly and usefull. Being very critical, the only uncorfotable situation was the lack of AC in the elevators, considering the heat of last week... Definetly adviced for any kind of trip to Budapest.

Stayed for four nights in August and it really is a super hotel. The staff were friendly and approachable. They were ultra efficient in providing information, sorting out any requests and in providing service. Would recommend opting for an executive room. The Executive Lounge is well worth the extra cost and the rooms are huge and well appointed with luxurious bathrooms. In the lounge there are nibbles, wine and beer and spirits after 6pm as well as afternoon tea. Breakfast service was also excellent although breakfast in the lounge was a more refined and quieter experience. The Spa in the hotel was first class. Location was good, about a 20 minute walk to the main shopping streets and Danube, with trams stopping outside the hotel and the underground a 5 minute walk away. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Tip. Watch out for service charges in the restaurants. The price you see is not what you pay.

Not so centrally located but at a walking distance from most important touristic attractions and at two blocs from a metro station. The Spa is quite nice but too small for this large Hotel and gets easily crowded.

Room Tip: It is worth to book one executive room that includes the complementary usage of the “executive loung...

Classy but unpretentious. History and modern comfort perfectly blended together. Nice spa. Friendly service. If you have kids go for the appartments. Inexpensive if compared to what you get. We loved it.

This was a city break for me and my partner. I can only say that we must have struck lucky and booked one of the best hotels in the city. The hotel replicates a bygone era of opulence and service. We booked an executive double which overlooked one of the hotel's atriums. It was extremely well appointed and very quiet. The hotel's restaurant, bar and spa were excellent. I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Budapest, being close to all public transport and in a excellent position for visiting Buda and other parts of Pest.
We had the use of the executive club, which was superb, but I was surprised that a dress code wasn't in force, considering the quality of the hotel, but perhaps I'm a bit old fashioned about these things.
All in all a real haven for the city traveller, but the real gem is the 5 star attitude and service from the hotel staff - thank you very much!

We stayed with my wife and 4mo old daughter for 5 nights. Although this is an above average hotel, all in all, it did not really meet our expectations.

On the positive side: The room we had booked (executive guestroom) was spacious, clean, and quiet; the common use areas (reception, halls, restaurants for breakfast etc) were of high standards and fitting to the style of the hotel; the breakfast was quite nice, with enough variety, good quality, and decent service; the check-in was fast and relaxing (we were offered fresh orange juice or champagne); the spa was ok, nothing to be impressed with, but also no disappointments; the transfer service we had requested upon our arrival was there and with a decent car, although the driver ‘helped’ us by carrying one of our bags, while my wife and I had to carry two more, along with the baby stroller. Still, they were caring enough to have fitted the car with an infant's seat.

On the negative side: The baby cot in our room was not the one you would expect in a 5 star hotel, but rather a portable travel cot of low quality and comfort. The room had an old-fashioned CRT type TV, which seemed to belong to an era past. The executive club lounge (where supposedly you get all day long snacks, refreshments, etc) was a disappointment with limited to zero quantity of snacks (most of the time you would find empty trays there) and not 5 star quality. Most of the times, one had to request what should already be there – e.g. wine glasses for the already opened wine bottles, or still water, which they very often seemed to be out of. In general, the level of service was rather random. Upon arrival, some of the amenities from our room were not there and we had to call and ask them to be brought in. One of the days, our room was not serviced, and again, we had to call the hotel and ask for housekeeping service. Depending on the day, we would get quality shampoo, shower gel etc, while other days we would get different products of much lower quality. Some of the staff were professional and helpful, while others spoke little English, were indifferent, unfriendly or even arrogant. Sometimes the door would be opened for you upon entering the hotel, while others you had to struggle and open it yourself, even though carrying a baby stroller and bags. Some of the employees in the concierge desk were helpful and attentive, while one frowned upon our request to call us a taxi different than the ones owned by the hotel (they charge about 2 times higher than that of the big Budapest companies).

The location was so and so, being not too far from the cities attractions and close to a metro stop as well as tram stop, but also in a rather unattractive neighborhood (with some strip-clubs, sex shops just around the corner).

All in all, our expectations of the #3 hotel in Budapest (according to tripadvisor ratings) were not met, as we felt like being in a 5 star building with maybe 3 or 4 star service. I guess depending on the randomness of the service one could have a much more pleasant or a much more disappointing experience in this hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
First opened in 1896 as the Grand Hotel Royal; a hub for the elite of nineteenth century society, and painstakingly restored to its original glory some hundred years later, the Corinthia Budapest – located in the heart of the city - brings together classic hotel opulence with the finest five-star luxury of modern times. While the gracious frontage, marble floors, sweeping staircase and breathtaking, six-story Atrium preserved from the original building offer glorious hints of a bygone age, the levels of comfort and convenience are all reassuringly up to date.A particular feature is the hotel’s original Royal Spa centre, with 15-metre pool, now extensively refurbished by the current owners to reflect the very best in 21st-century spa luxury while retaining the grandeur of the past. Without doubt the finest hotel in Budapest. Built in classic French Renaissance style, the Grand Royal became a beacon of luxury in the days of Emperor Franz Joseph 1. Designed as a centrepiece of Hungary’s celebrations to mark its first thousand years, the hotel’s grand-style architecture and unrivaled guest facilities were seen as state-of the art for the times. Much of the building was destroyed in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and despite re-opening in more modest form in the 1960’s, the Grand Royal remained a shadow of its former self until the 1990’s; when new owners Corinthia Hotels gave the green light for an extensive restoration project that would retain the best of the old, while sensitively adding the new. Once restored to its original splendour, the newly named Corinthia Hotel Budapest re-opened its doors, as a five-star luxury property, in 2003. ... more   less
