We were looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay, so this quiet place in the suburbs of Budapest was ideal. We were a little worried about being so far from the city centre but it's very easy to get a bus in, a 20min trip (past the castle) and there are night buses too. There is a decent restaurant nearby too.

The staff were friendly and full of useful advice, and the room was decent, with a nice little balcony and a good view of the surrounding hills.

I would definitely recommend this as a nice cheap option.

Just spent the last 3 nights of our eastern europe tour at helios penzion. We decided to go ahead with this place as the reviews here in tripadvisor seem to suggest that its great, so we gave it a shot despite it being far from the city centre in Pest. I must say, besides the nice scenery...nothing else lived up to expectations!

A number of problems we faced:
#1: No one to help with the luggage at all! We are 3 ladies travelling and we needed someone to help with the luggage since there was no elevator. Upon arriving, there was a lady--Agi on duty and she led us to our apartment--which was at the TOP floor (4th floor). I felt that she should have warned us of this fact in view of our luggages (of which mine was no way near cabin size which could be carried up easily). When we reached the top floor (I counted: 48steps from the breakfast room!!), we were panting like mad. We pointed out to Agi that someone should be around to help but she simply said it was not possible today as she was the only one there. She said we could approach the owner tmr morning about the situation as she could do nothing at the moment to help us. She didn't seem very sympathetic or concerned at all!!!! But one redeeming factor was that she spoke good English and helped us alot with directions. In fact, I think she can speak English the best among all the hotel staff we communicated with.

#2: MANY BUGS IN THE ROOM! If you are one who hate insects that fly or crawl...I don't think this place is suitable. throughout our stay, I had to deal with no less than 7 creepy crawlies...that's excluding those that resided in the corners and the ceiling, but since they didn't bother me, it didn't really matter. Out of these, one came right out of the towel that I took from the cupboard. This insect was rather huge and couldn't stop irritating us!
And everytime we opened the windows (since they was no air-con or ventilator), another few more would fly in. Very irritating!

#3: No change of towels. Previously coming from places like At the three ostriches (prague) and Aviano (vienna), we were quite taken aback that the staff did not change our towels. So we had to reuse our wet towels. Also, being a Pension apartment, i would expect that simple utensils and crockery be provided in the small kitchenette. But sorry...No can opener nor Kettle! It was really just the bare minimal, definitely impossible for us to cook a proper meal with can food. or even boil water with the stove there.

#4: On a number of occasions, the service from the staff was not helpful at all. During the first night, we realised there was no kettle so we asked for one. The man on duty said they could not provide one but kindly offered to send up some hot water if we needed. A hair dryer was also promptly sent up to us when we called for it. However, it was very different the second night. This time it was a different guy on duty and he was obviously not very helpful. Once again, we asked for hot water when we came back to the hotel. But it was not sent up to our room for a long time. When we called for a can opener, the guy then informed us that our water was ready--I assume he expected us to climb all the way down to collect it and then carry it all the way up again! oh wells, No choice, we had to do so very late at night and the corridors and hallways were all dark. Never get the apartments on the top floor (A5 A6)! The hotel staff in the morning did not really understand English as well. We had some problems with our internet check in for flight home so my mum seeked help to call the airline. The staff did not understand at all and it as not until my mum drew a picture of an aeroplane before she got the idea!

#5: We thought someone would probably conveyed our situation of luggage to the front desk and upon check out we would get some form of help.. But not at all! We had no help whatsoever! The two staff at the desk did not offer to help when they saw us struggling at the foot of the stairs.

These are some of the major problems we had. Some people may not think its a problem but somehow it really made our stay not as pleasant as expected from previous reviews. The only thing that was true is the fabtastic view from the room--That I cannot deny. If you want a getaway from the city and don't find the above problematic then this is a good place. Otherwise, you may get disappointed!

We only stayed one night at this nice pension in Budapest. We had stayed downtown at the beginning of our trip and decided to stay here for our last night in Europe.

Mikolos (sp.?) was quite patient with a couple of frazzled Americans who had a bit of a time finding the place. (We did not bring adequate directions from the train station, but if you take the #8 bus, it is pretty easy.) He called a nearby restaurants to see who was open on a holiday and allowed us to check in for our flight. He seemed to be as attentive to other guests as well.

The pension will arrange taxis, sells bus tickets and nice quiet place with lovely views.

My husband and I just returned from 6 wonderful days at the Helios. I can certainly add to the positive comments others have made. This is a very well-run, sparklingly clean pension with beautiful views of the Buda hills. We loved being outside the city because it gave us two vacations in one. After a day of sight seeing in the city, it was a pleasure to return to green hills and the cozy atmosphere of the Helios. And the bus trip into the city gave us a glimpse of life in Budapest, outside the tourist areas.

The staff couldn’t have been nicer, especially the wonderful and vivacious Agnes, who welcomed us with maps and brochures as well as a hand-drawn map showing how to get to the bus stop (a lovely walk down a flower-lined lane .) There are two restaurants within a few minutes walk of the Helios. We tried the Barakos ( ?) twice… good hungarian food at very reasonable prices, English menus and a separate non-smoking room.

The daily breakfast was more than adequate and was quite pleasant, taken either in the bright breakfast room or the patio just outside. The strong hungarian coffee was wonderful!

And what customer service! When our return airport shuttle didn’t arrive, Agnes waited with us in the courtyard and called the shuttle company several times for us. When we realized they would not show up, she quickly called a cab and we paid a fixed price (24 euros) for the cab ride to the airport (we paid the hotel and they gave us a voucher.) She waited with us at the gate until the cab arrived and told the driver in hungarian that we were running late. (In this regard, DO NOT book airport transfers with Budapest Express (we booked through Expedia). Not only did they not show up, but the 36 euros we paid for a one-way transfer was more than the fixed-price (and much more comfortable) cab ride.

At the Helios, we felt as if we were staying at our aunt’s home, rather than at a hotel. The beds were soft and comfortable, sheets and pillows fluffy and fresh, breakfast was ready when we woke up... and Agnes stood at the gate, waving good-bye to us, as we drove away.

Fantastic little hotel in the Buda Hills. The staff is very attentive and helpful with all details even booking my 3:30AM taxi to the airport! There is a bus stop 2 blocks away that takes you straight into the city center where you can catch a lot of other busses or the great city trams. The breakfast was great every morning and the balconies are wonderful.

As a female traveler trekking alone, I felt extremely safe here and they have a 24 hour front desk attendant who also speaks English. I absolutely recommend this hotel.

What a lovely find the Helios was all of the staff were very friendly and helpful and a special mention for Agi who was so very welcoming and informative. We stayed in one of the apartments they are very clean and spacious. It was nice to be staying in such tranquil surroundings but still only 15 minutes bus ride from the city via the number 8 bus which we were told runs around every 10 minutes but the longest that we seemed to wait was about 5 minutes you can return on this bus up until 11.00 in the evening after this you can either taxi or catch the night bus108 which runs through the night one every hour through till 4am. They can also arrange an airport transfer which was 22 Euros for up to four people it is quite a long journey from the airport so again this was very realisticaly priced. We were also offered a 10% discount for paying cash which covered our transfer back to the airport so thankyou Helios for making our visit to Budapest an enjoyable one we hope to go back to finish off our sightseeing in the not to distant future.
