“Hotel Mediterran”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Very nice hotel. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was the distance from the centre of Pest. The hotel is located on the Buda side of the Danube and was about a 30 minute walk from the centre. However there is a regular bus service from the corner of the street. There is also a good bar on the corner and a pub across the road. The pub was quiet and on the one occasion we were there there appeared to be a book reading meeting taking place. The location was a let down but not knowing the geography of the city beforehand we did not realise this until we got there.

The hotel was very clean, the staff were friendly and very helpful and offer was a good reasonably priced breakfast. Although the hotel is 1.5 miles from Budapest centre, the transport links are very good at a price of about 85p for a single journey. Would recommend to anyone on a short stay trip, we stayed for 5 days.Overall conveniently located, comfortable and a pleasurable stay.

I'm a regular visitor to Budapest and know the area around Hotel Mediterran very well so that was the main reason to choose this hotel initially but I will return because the staff were without question the friendliest in Budapest and the hotel was immaculately clean from my room, right the way through to the mini-spa in the basement.
Wi-fi would be a brilliant addition but if you aren't after 5 star style accomodation, and you want a conveniently located place to stay where you will be very comfortable, consider this hotel.

Despite the advertised 4 star classification I would say that the hotel is more of a standard hotel - pretty good but not on a fancy level.

If you're in Budapest for a couple of days and are fine with staying a bit outside of the city center then I would say that you should check this out. If you're out for that little extra and are picky with the location I would suggest you to look for something else. If you, like me, are spending almost all your time outside the hotel and so care less if "top notch" or not - consider booking a room and you could save some money.

The hotel is right next to a buss stop (nr 8 and 121) with departure/arrival ~10 times/hour. The buss ticket is very cheap and it takes less then 10 minutes to reach the center. All in all you should be able to reach one of the main central squares, shopping districts and metro stations within 15 minutes without having to leave the buss, and so you will not get the feeling of staying at a hotel in the middle of nowhere.

The main downside is the placement itself - right next to a main ring road with a lot of traffic. I would suggest you to ask for a room not facing the road to avoid getting frustrated. If you're lucky you will get a room at the back of the hotel and then you should not be disturbed by the traffic. The room is of decant size with air condition (good performance but a bit noisy), open space, minibar, wardrobes and a restroom with bathtub.

Short pros and cons:
+ Connection to public transit
+ Good size standard rooms
+ Friendly and helpful staff
- Placement next to ring road
- Regular cleaning but carpets, wall papers etc is a bit stale

A small hotel ideally situated very close to tram connections which got us anywhere throughout Budapest, the staff were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and spoke very good English,at the reception you can purchase tram tickets which can be used on Trams, Metro and Buses. The transport systems are exceptionally good and a wonderful way to get around. The rooms had air conditioning which was great as the temperature reached as high as 40c during our stay, breakfast was continental style which was ample.

The only down side is you do need to carry a map at all times as the brown tourist signs are few and far between

All in All an excellent holiday

Although this hotel is out of the city centre, it is within easy reach of bus and tram stops.
It is air conditioned, important when the outside temp is in the high 30s.
The staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was large and airy.
We had a wonderful trip.

We stayed here for 3 nights in Aug, although the Hotel was clean, and good breakfast, it is on a busy main road and can be quite noisy at night, Staff were very helpful. Hotel is within walking distance into Town (20 min walk) or there is a bus no 8 or 112 that goes into town which is a 3 minute walk from the hotel. we booked a hotel shuttle bus on line to take us to our Hotel, well worth the £20 return journey, there desk is just outside the arrivals hall in the terminal we didnt have to wait, and they picked us up on time for our return flight. next door to the Hotel there is a nice bar for a night cap, also good food it is called Aranyhid and offers ( FREE WIFI.) the ...hotel charges 8 euros for 24 hours. shopping centre called MOM Park is 15 minute walk, also has a nice restaurant where you can sit outside. Thermal Baths well worth a visit, the hop on hop off city bus tour we did the green and pink, with that you receive 2 free beers, 2 goulash soups and 2 free 1 hour boat trips on the Danube..excellent value..one word of warning if getting a taxi, from town have the restaurant call City Cars, we got ripped off first night it was £11, then it was £5 which is acceptable, although the no 8 bus comes back from town 4 stops then get off. the area of Bata Utci is more reasonable prices to eat, a street full of bars and restaurants.....good wine and priced around £7 - £11 per bottle......HAVE FUN
