We had a private room for 3 nights. Central location at the heart of it all. Great staff, free internet, basic breakfast. We had a private room but unfortunately it was near the entrance so it got quite noisy. Our room was very clean but my sister saw one lone cockroach hanging out in the shower (showers: one per gender and one separate toilet per as well).

Basic hostel with laundry facilities, book swap. The shower is something else, the flow runs at 15 second intervals so it's better if you just keep one hand on the button. Could they not have set it to 45sec-1 minute intervals? - you can barely lather before your cut off.

The staff were helpful and friendly and it was easy to reserve a room from the website. Though on the site discourage people who want to party, but it was noisy while we were there - group of guys partying. We wound up changing locations the when we were back in Budapest a second time around. The staff were fantastic.

I found it difficult to find a reasonablely priced place to stay in Budapest that would be quiet and near the center. I finally went with Red Bus and I stayed there for four nights. The staff knows English. It is located near the old Jewish area. It is on a street that has little traffic. I had a single small room with the shared bathroom right outside of it. No security box in the room but you could use the hostal's safe, but I did not. The bed was small and the room is shoe horn small....two small beds back to back took up most of the room. There is a public kitchen area and the instant coffee and bread and jam and cereal is for free.....nothing to write home about....like prison food. But you can go to the neighborhood small market a block away and get orange juice etc and keep it in their refrigerator. The place was very quiet at night. I do not remember any A.C. or fan, but it was not needed. The location is good. The price as I recall was in the high $50 to low $60 range. I consider it a good value for this city....this was just before the market crash and the Hungary currency the Foint lost some of its value versus the dollar. They were still not on the Euro.

This was a very strange hostel. The reviews posted around the place seemed to be divided 50/50 love/hate this place. I felt the same. One the one hand it was in a good location, (curfew so be warned) and some staff were very helpful, (when i arrived the guy working did my washing for me and it was folded on my bed the next day), but then the next staff member rostered on would be rude and aggressive. You sometimes felt like you were disturbing them. Rooms were ok, comfortable but nothing special. Overall, ok, maybe as a back up if nothing else available.
