“Best location for budget stay in Budapest!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2012

The City Hotel Matyas is one of the best things we faced during our 4 day visit to Budapest! Excellent staff speaking good English, wonderful breakfast at one of local must-visit-restaurants, best location, value for money! If you are looking for budget accomodation which can also provide you with the best location in the city - the City Hotel Matyas is probably the only one you need to choose! Special thank you to all receptionists - we've met many during our stay - they do their best! You may ask them for any help - and they are always ready to assist with any advice or immediate action!:)

Room Tip: Rooms on the 1st floor have an access to free wi-fi (but it's available in the lobby anyway)

The location and price are great enough that I've stayed here 2 out of 8 trips to Budapest. Around the corner from the pedestrian street and lots of shopping, concerts at St. Micheal's, restaurants and the big indoor market. Easy walk along the river to the Buda side to enjoy those sights and baths. Interesting old building retro-fitted into a hotel. The lobby is up one flight of stairs from the street. Some rooms have elevator access and some don't. The halls can be like a maze with steps up and down and over and around. It gives the place "character". Many rooms face an indoor courtyard that has great potential but currently is stark. The breakfast buffet was wonderful but priced high. I squirreled away bread & cheese and fruit for lunch. There are several great pastry shops nearby. The staff was friendly and helpful and many spoke English. Wi-fi available. Nothing fancy but clean, convenient and a great value. I'll stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with elevator access if that is important to you.

It is a very nice and beautiful in old style building of Budapest, freindly and helpful stuffs, good breakfasts! You can catch a tram, buses or subway to the hot spot, but so near for shopping area!

Room Tip: Rooms in the back side are more quite if you need to sleep well.

The hotel's location could not be better - about a minute's walk from the Pest shore of the Danube, on the corner of the main shopping street Vaci Utca, maybe 15 minutes from the centre of Pest in one direction and the National Museum in another. The hotel occupies parts of large 19th century courtyard town houses, which gives it a lot of character. Our room was the far side of an internal balcony overlooking the courtyard, which was probably one of the quieter spots. The room itself was clean and comfortable. Reception staff were helpful and efficient, speaking excellent English. Our package did not include breakfast but we would recommend the breakfast buffet served in the Matyas Pince restaurant in the basement under the hotel. This was EUR7 per person, paid to hotel reception.

Room Tip: Second floor at back of courtyard was good.

The "hop-on/off" bus stops right in front because the Danube is across the street. The hotel caters to the European trade so you have to ask for a hairdryer and the liquid soap is both shampoo and cleaner. The rooms are just fine although the foyer and reception area are a bit quirky. A perfect place to stay if you want to spend your money on museum entrances and not a doorman. I think it was a "find".

Very central location. Rooms big and clean , very good value for money.

Room Tip: Avoid courtyard facing as no view however these are often the best value for money

Far better than we expected for the price. Spotless room, air conditioning, plenty of piping hot water. Beds very comfortable. TV had English, German and French programs as well as Hungarian. Room regularly serviced. Staff very friendly and helpful. Free safety deposit box at reception.

Room Tip: Courtyard room was very quiet
