Owner description: This thermal bath, built by the Turks in 1566, retains a strong Islamic style.

If you haven't experienced Turkish-style thermal baths, this is one of the best choices. It is one of the oldest in Budapest going back to the 145 year Ottoman occupation. But, in my experience, Rudas and other baths do a poor job of giving neophytes an idea of what to expect. Rudas is undergoing major renovations but these don't affect the thermal pools.

Do not visit this place on weekends, we found this spa nice, but the water was not so clear as wee expected. Interesting to visit if you like spa or sauna. Very good cold water and hot water pools.

It was a hot day when, on a walking tour, we came upon the baths. As it was a hot day, the place was crowded. We did not get into the baths, but judging from those in there, everyone was happy!

Rudas Baths are really ugly looking from the outside, with all the renovation going on... But inside is a very charming, relaxing place with dimmed lights. One must know that the best way to get to Rudas is to take bus number 7 that stops right in front of the Bath entrance. Also they do charge additional 300 Ft for the towel useage. The towel is actually a linen sheet, but useful enough. If you rent a cabin, the size is pretty small, where you can only sit down, a bit too tight for 2 people. And don't forget to take your silver jewelry off, as it does oxidize quite a bit!!!

Rudas baths were undergoing renovation when me and a friend visited on women only day (tuesday). Despite the building works in what will eventually be the foyer the turkish baths remain authentic and intact. A stonework dome dotted with coloured glass windows covers the central pool which was very clean, a dream to float under enjoying the splash of thermal waters on ones skin. We were provided with bath sheets, no swimming costumes were necessary although some ladies wear them.

It's a small baths in comparison to Szechensyi and much more intimate. If you arrive before 12 you enjoy a discount of 700HUF although on a weekday massages are not available until 3pm. The prices the baths in Budapest are generally listed in English and Hungarian but the staff are seldom able to explain the full meaning of the various options listed. We were helped by a lovely hungarian lady who explained how to use the lockers and asked for bath sheets for us from the attendants. My advice just ask people for help and generally in Budapest every one will go out of their way to explain things to you especially if they're not being paid to give advice!

I was given some disapproving looks from the older ladies in the sauna for being naked and not taking in my bath sheet to sit on, in sweden swimsuits and towels are not allowed in the sauna as they effect the humidity, but they advised me what I should do and everyone was placated.

Absolutely loved it!
