As the largest and most often pictured spa in Budapest I felt it needed a visit during a short break. I booked online before I went and believed I had booked a cabin, along with the package of flip flops, towel, shampoo and bottle of water. However, when I arrived they said I had only paid for a locker. Too tired to argue and needing to immerse myself into the hot waters of the spa, I hurriedly got changed in the changing rooms instead. Lockers are found all around the edge of the changing areas as well as outside. It was confusing how to lock the locker using the wristband but luckily one of the people working at the spa was on hand to help. Flip flops are a must; outside it was cold on the stone floor and inside very slippery, so they help to make your visit a little safer and also cleaner!
The pools themselves..... there are 3 pools outside. One is for lane swimming and you must wear a swimming hat. The other two are warmer, around 34 degrees, and are for relaxing, with a superb view of the spa buildings, the sunset and then the changing colours of the lights in the pools after dark.
Inside are numerous pools, from an 18 degree cold plunge pool through to 40 degrees in the hottest pool. Saunas and steam rooms are also included in the entrance ticket, although massages and entry to the beer spa are extra.
Outdoor pools are lovely, warm and clean, although crowded at times. Indoor pools are very dated, not dirty as some reviews state, but more in need of a spruce up - a coat of paint and new tile grout would help! Yes, the indoor pools are smelly, but it's not of urine, rather of sulphur and minerals along with a general damp smell. Nothing too pungent though!
So, along with flip flops you should take 2 towels as the one you wrap yourself in between pools and to move between indoor and outdoor pools will get soaked. Leave a fresh one in your locker for afterwards. The towel included in my package was an ample size and a nice souvenir, embroidered with the spa name.
To sum it up, the spa was easy to find and walk to from the city centre and I spent a relaxing few hours there. To earn a 5th star they need to be clearer with their online booking so you know what is included and there could be better signage and instructions around the place to help visitors.
