“Fantastic Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2014

You must include a trip to Szechenyi bath house on your Budapest 'to-visit' list... it is a super way to spend some hours of your holiday. Would recommend hiring a cabin if you're there with a close friend or partner - gives you a small changing area to change and store your valuables.

We didn't have flip-flops with us and walking between the outdoor baths felt VERY cold on our feet.... but then that did mean that getting into the water again felt very rewarding! Go before 1900 hrs if you want full access to facilities - one area closes after 1900 hrs as we discovered although we didn't feel we were missing out as the other areas that are open are huge. A delightful experience.

“Like a bath house, times a thousand”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

Any trip to Budapest NEEDS to go through the Szechenyi Bath House. It is massive in the most literal sense possible; if you spend just 5 minutes in each pool you could be there all day. The pool temperatures range from warm bathwater to bone chilling cold. The most impressive pool is the large outdoor one which holds thousands of bathers. It is ornate, detailed, and has water jets all around.
In short the water is clean, you'll feel rejuvinated, it's a cultural thing to do, and Hungarian people look pretty good with their shirts off. You should go

“bathing outside in January - madness!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2014

this was a fantastic experience. we were recommended this place by our hotel. and what a place to visit! the complex itself is very clean, very well kept and cheap to visit. despite the amount of many tourists visiting, there is room for everyone as it is HUGE. loads of baths, steam rooms, saunas of all different temperatures to choose from so make your way round to all of them like we did. highly recommended and a great experience.

“Great experience at the baths!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014 via mobile

We enjoyed our visit to the Szechenyi bath. We went in the evening after it was dark. The exterior of the bath looked cool as we walked up to it, there was a huge cloud of steam billowing up from the outdoor pool areas. It was kind of a foggy night anyway buy the big cloud of steam made it even more foggy.
The baths are nice the changing and common areas were a little in need of a good cleaning, I was just trying to embrace the old world charm! We didn't sign up for any of the spa services, but the massage personnel didn't look overly friendly.
There is a big whirlpool in the center of one of the outdoor thermal pools. It is not a whirlpool in the relaxing sense, but rather a big raging whirlpool. Think of a giant washtub for people. It was actually kind of fun, but be wary of large crowds of young people because it can get pretty crazy. The jets of water all point in the same direction, and literally push you around the whirlpool!
The steam room is great!

“My favorite place in Central Europe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

Not to be missed. After bathing here once a few years back I came back for a week-long spa holiday. Excellent solution for those who like to be in an outdoor pool in the middle of January.
