I'd read about Budapest baths and was not sure what to expect. This one was recommended (and also in the books) so we went one summer evening when the heat of the day had died down and enjoyed it much (Jun08). The best way I can describe it that it is like a Las Vegas style outdoor pool (big, multi-faceted) but with authentic architecture and no lounge chairs to fight over. I'm also not sure they serve drinks there but there is a restaurant onsite.
It has three big outdoor pools with many different temperature options for hot or cold, and also some indoor smaller hot / warm tubs and a sauna (you have to walk around the place to see it all - as its not obvious when you arrive.)
The cost is something like $20 - 1200 for up to 3 hours - you get 400 of it back if you leave before the end of your 2nd hour. This is probably plenty of time unless you bring your book and your blow-up Thermarest to sit on.
What to bring: flip flops to walk around in, bathing suit, goggles/bathing cap if you want to swim laps, chess game for you and your pal, sun glasses and towel (or rent 1). They have showers and a blow dryer area in the common changing area.
No need to pay extra for a "cabin" unless your fear of being seen naked from junior high gym class still haunts you. A locker comes with your entrance fee and there is a changing area. They rent towels for a small fee too. I'd go a few days into your trip to rest your tired aching feet. Its open til 10 pm and its beautifully lit at night also. The metro will drop you right there. Considering Budapest was not all THAT fabulous in terms of architecture nor sights... honestly.... I'd say it could be a highlight of your tour and give it a 5 star rating.
