“Excellent”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

We went in the early evening for a couple of hours. Its very near Szechenyi furdo metro stop on M1 line. You have to queue once to get in, then again if you want towels or a swim hat. There is a quite a large deposit for towels that you have to pay in cash but get back at end.
The hot pools outside were very relaxing, surrounded by incredible architecture and with a nice atmosphere even though it was busy.
There is a lane pool but you must wear a swim hat to use this pool.
the saunas and steam room are also worth visiting but some are very hot!
Take a drinking water bottle, there is a tap in sauna area where you can refill.
There are free hairdryers in the ladies changing room. (dont know about the mens)

“a real experience”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

The Szechenyi baths are worthwile a visit when staying in Budapest. It's a real experience ! At the entrance of the building, it's a bit difficult to figure out what the prices and the different packages are, but that shouldn't stop you from going in. Although there are a lot of people visiting the baths, you still can relax and enjoy the different baths. Everyone is at ease and things are going rather in slow motion. The bath outside is also great : 38°C with an outdoor temperature of 5°C allows you to forget the cold.
A very relaxing and calming experience !

“Fun day”
Reviewed April 28, 2013 via mobile

We spent a wonderful day at the Szechenyi Baths for our 15th anniversary. It was a fun and unique cultural experience. The outdoor pools were lots of fun and we enjoyed the hot indoor baths.
I found a few things confusing. You can rent a locker or a changing cabin. The locker is just like a locker in your health club locker room - segregated by gender with open changing areas. The cabin is a small room you change in. Both the cabin and the locker lock so you can safely leave your stuff there. There's no need to also rent a safe.
I only have 2 complaints. They don't have chairs, just a few benches so most people end up sitting on the concrete. Also the cafeteria was awful, the food was overpriced and it took forever. Bring your own food.

“an absolute must”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

If you do only one thing in Budapest, please make it this.
We went in winter when it was freezing cold outside and the bath was warm and with all the steam rising up into the air, it was an almost magical experience. We went on a weekend and it was quite crowded, but it does not take away from the experience at all. We also got a cabin and it was very secure - you lock it with your wristband. The whole operation is very well run and the staff are friendly. We loved the outdoor pools the best - there are a few inside at different temperatures, and we tried them all, but nothing beats the atmosphere of the ones outside. We stayed literally all day until closing and it was such a relaxing experience. I would recommend bringing water because you will dehydrate quickly in the hot water, and also bring a towel.
