“Very cool :) :)”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

The Tropicarium is a very cool place to visit especially if you enjoy the nature. I would not recommend it as a must-do when in Budapest, but definitely try to if you have the time and inclination.
It is a little way off the city center and is located in the Campona Mall (so you have places to eat/shop). If you are not driving or taking a cab, i would suggest taking one of the buses 33, 133E or 233E from Budapest and it'll drop u right in front of the mall (Bus stop name - Lépcsős utca).
The entry is not high at 2400HUF for adults (15% further discount coupons can b found in your hotel reception area, so don't miss that). One enters into a room filled with several tanks housing various types of fish from there you move into the next room which has monkeys (several variety's) and snakes in glass cases mounted on wall and also turtles.
The next exhibit is designed as a Rain forest and every 45 mts it creates the environment of a Rainforest (It starts raining and you hear the sounds of various animals). This area has a water body with several fish and 2-3 crocodiles. You walk over them on a bridge.
Further ahead you see 2 exhibits - one up, one down.
Go up first, it has Guinea pigs, several types of frogs/toads, insects, lizards etc.
On going down take the other lower exhibit and you'll see more fish (don't miss the red faced Phiranas). Further ahead is the Shark Tank!! You walk into a tunnel with water on ur sides and also on top :) The sharks and huge Sting Rays constantly swim over you :) It is awesome !!
There are a lot more fish & Coral in here. (On Thursdays there is Shark feeding at 3pm.. try to see it).
Last there comes a Sting Ray petting tank and you come out into the Souvenir shop.
I am in Budapest for a month (accompanying my husband on his work) so i do have a lot of free time during weekdays. That said and done, I loved the place and thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to any family who has young kids and who themselves enjoy nature :)

“Fun for the whole family”
Reviewed May 22, 2013

Although the place is a bit off the center of Budapest (in Campona shopping center) it is well worth the visit especially if you are travelling with kids. We loved the variety of fishes presented and the highlight was the big tank with the sharks under which there is a tunnel and you can see the fishes swimming above you head. Also, try to visit the Tropicarium on a Thursday at 3 PM as this is the day when they feed the sharks and it is very interesting to see the sharks eating literally from the divers' hands. There are benches just in front of the huge tank and you can sit and relax while watching. We also loved the Insectarium as well as the petting ray pool at the end.

“Lots of kids of course but also digestible for adults”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Nice destination on a rainy or lazy Sunday afternoon. Even as an experienced open water scuba-diver of 600 + dives I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of healthy sweet & saltwater fish (and some insects & reptiles) Compliments for the maintenance of the Tropicarium in general, but especially for the fish tanks who were all spic&span and were even sporting some very nice and healthy anemones proof of the good water quality.
