We have just returned from a splendid week in Budapest and the Molnar Panzio Hotel. The accomodation was very well priced and spacious with seperate bedroom for our young Daughter.
Breakfast was above average in a most pleasant dining room which also provided a good quality evening meal.
The hotel staff were all very helpful at all times.

THE GOOD BITS -
The hotel location was great, very peaceful and only a short bus and tram ride into the heart of the city - approximately three minute walk on the flat to the bus, a two minute ride down the hill and a ten to fifteen minute tram ride to the city centre. The public transport is amazing - never late and very frequent. I walked to the city centre one evening in about 45 minutes but you would have to be fit to walk back as it is all uphill! (NOTE - The public transport would not be very good for a wheelchair user or someone with walking difficulties).
The room was spacious and reasonably well equipped with mini bar, hairdryer, small balcony with table and two chairs, adequate hanging/drawer space and a television with about 12 channels (3 in English).
The reception staff were nice, very helpful and made breakfast time a pleasure. (the reception staff served breakfast).
The breakfast was adequate with a selection of cold meats, small breakfast pastries, hardboiled eggs, cheese, bread, fresh rolls, jams, tea, coffee and fruit juice. The staff will prepare you some scrambled eggs, omelette, bacon or sausages (frankfurters) if you prefer something hot.

THE BAD BITS -
The cleaners. Although it looked tidy on the surface it became evident that parts of the room were not cleaned very often (it had rarely seen a vacuum cleaner but carpet of type that you wouldn't really notice unless you wear white) and the cleaners were cleaning our ashtrays in the bathroom sink (butts and all). The bathroom was only given a wipe down most days and I believe the sheets would have been the same for our whole visit had we not stayed in one day (the cleaner felt obliged to change them in front of us). She even locked us out on our balcony - luckily I'm young and fit as I had to jump down about 5 metres from the first floor or else we would have been stuck there for some time!
The hotel restaurant. We decided to treat ourselves to a meal at the hotel on our last evening (the hotel restaurant is quite expensive in comparison to most local restaurants). My mothers meal was super, as was my Hungarian Stew but the gnocchi served with it was terrible. The waiter explained to me it was Hungarian gnocchi which is apparently different so I asked him if it would be possible to get some French fries. He rudely answered 'NO' and proceeded to steal my plate from me and take it to the kitchen much to my protest. On his return I found my meal to have been slopped onto another plate and instead of the gnocchi I now had soggy overcooked potatoes and the now cold stew which had tasted lovely before was now so covered in salt it was completely inedible.
The hotel manager tried to apologise with a bottle of wine but to me this kind of behaviour from hotel staff is unacceptable!
The no smoking areas..... What no smoking areas! I witnessed people smoking throughout the hotel, in the stairwells and many cigars in the 'no smoking' restaurant. (As a smoker this didn't bother me but would upset some)
For allergy sufferers - They do allow pets! There was a sign in the hotel saying pets welcome.
The broken A/C was never fixed.

To sum things up if you don't mind a little dirt, you smoke, have no allergies and are happy to eat out in the evenings this is a nice place to stay....

We were a group of eight people, and all of us enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were large and most were air-conditioned. We requested and received non-smoking rooms. All our rooms were super clean, had small balconies, and included the amenities (TV, Private Bath, Mini Bar, Hair Dryer, etc).

Note: For allergy sufferers, the Hotel Molnar doesn't allow pets, so you don't have to deal with pet dander, smells, etc.

Breakfast was included in the price and was very good (hot pastries, breads, meats, cheeses, and fruits/fruit juices). They would even cook you an omelet, scrambled or fried eggs with ham or bacon (at no extra charge).

We had our breakfasts and one dinner meal out on the covered patio--since the weather was so nice.

The location of the hotel could be a drawback if you wanted to be downtime in the thick of things. We didn't. We preferred this quiet, higher location and took taxis down to the city center each day. Since there were 8 of us, we split the cab fare and it was better than taking the bus or trolley.

I would definitely stay here again.

Booked two rooms in mid August 2004 at Molnar Panzio and stayed four nights. Great little place. Location is outskirts of town - not walking distance to downtown, but only a short cab ride. Beautiful view of city from above. Great restaurant on the premises. Rooms were small, no shocker in Budapest, but very well equipped. There was plenty of storage and hanging space, a little TV, a/c, comfortable little balconies, comfortable and clean beds and floors, and immaculate bathrooms, and even a little mini bar. This isn't the Ritz, it's a smallish pension, but quite nice. I would definitely stay here again, as you're in one of the most exclusive residential parts of town and that makes it more interesting. Have fun!
