“Safe but unspectacular”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Omnibusz is an adequate, safe and affordable hotel some distance from the city centre (approx. 15 min by underground). Our room was fine and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast (additional cost of 4 Euro per person) was terrible so we only had it once. Nice garden with hammock behind the hotel.Very convenient if you are taking an early morning long distance bus, as we discovered, as it is only a 5 min walk from the main bus station.

I don't know how it happened, but we booked the hotel for the wrong dates! We needed it from 17 to 18, but booked 18-19, but from the 18 we had another booking in Krakow! We came to the hotel quite late, were very tired, but a man and a woman at the reception were kind to give us a room for this night without any extra charges for the second night that was booked! Concerning the location..If your aim to explore all the places of interest - it's better to find a hotel in the city centre (though there is a metrostation near to this one), but we chose this hotel as it's very close to the Nuygati railway station (we had a bus at 6:30 A.M.).

We initially booked the Hotel Omnibusz because we had an early bus to catch to Krakow, and we did not realize how efficient Budapest's public transit system is. So, we wanted to stay near the international bus station (Nepliget), and this had decent reviews.

First off, this is not near Nepliget, no matter what Google Maps may indicate. It is way down the street, past an extremely shady park (transvestite prostitutes, anyone?). It is, however, near another Metro station where drunk or deranged men follow people around and shout at them.

We also booked this hotel because it advertised air conditioning. When we arrived, we saw that the room had an air conditioning unit, but we were told that it did not work. We were also put in a room on the front of the hotel, right next to Ulloi Ut, where we could enjoy the extremely loud road noise upon opening the window. It was also not long before a swarm of flies made themselves at home in the room, as there was no screen. We asked to be relocated but were told they were full.

By this time, we were fed up and genuinely scared of the people in the area, so we booked a different hotel. When we told staff at Hotel Omnibusz we were leaving, they attempted to offer us a different room. Full, huh?

I'm appalled both at the conditions of this hotel and our treatment. If you have an early connection to make, don't bother booking here. The Metro runs early and often and can get you to Nepliget easily from a much safer, more professionally run hotel elsewhere in the city.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here. Period.

This little hotel offers pretty basic services, but the price-per-quality ratio is excellent! We stayed here as a group of 12 people, in one family room and four doubles. We payed 28 euros per person for two nights! The rooms are spacious and clean. You're not downtown, but you're 300 meters from a metro station and from there, it's 10 minutes to the city center. Supermarkets and fast food joints are 2 minutes away. Overall, a very good choice, I would say. I would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the boulevard. Room 13 is beautiful and my personal favorite.

I've stayed here twice. The first time, I had just gotten to Budapest in August of 2007, with no reservations whatsoever. I was with my then girlfriend, and we just popped up in the city at the Nepliget international bus station, which is a 5 minute walk away from the hotel. We found the hotel with 50 euro per night rates, and found this more than acceptable. So we decided that on our next trip to Budapest, in August of 2008, we would stay here again. It's within walking distance of a supermarket (Kaiser's), a gas station, a metro station (Ecseri Ut), and the Nepliget bus station. Which I think puts it right where a hotel should be on the map.
