“Great location and really nice staff.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2011

First if all, the location is pretty much the best you can get in Budapest if you're planning on traveling to other near-by cities 'cause keleti train station is right in front of you. Also, a step away from the front door (and I mean it) there is a metro 2 line! Who could ask for more? And if you're into shopping, it's a five minute walk from the largest shopping center, the arena plaza.

About the hotel itself, a really nice hotel and nice rooms, the staff was so helpful! At 11 pm the shower hose broke and after a quick call to the reception, a guy came instantly and opened an alternate room for us to take a shower. First thing in the morning after, they fixed it. I would definitely stay there again. Thank you.
Tzahi.

I was really disappointed with this hotel. I don't know how they categorise this hotel as a four-star hotel. The only star factor was the price of the room and the breakfast which is 11 euros/person/day - both exorbitant compared to the prices in Hungary (1 Euro= 266 HUF).
The location is right next to the station and is the only likeable part. The areas besides the bed is so narrow that you will have to jump over the bed from the foot end side. A small table and two chairs are provided. Dressing mirror suitable for bathrooms, such is the size. The mattresses were very uncomfortable. The room we were provided were at the back of the hotel and the only view is the windows of the other rooms - very depressing.
Regarding staff behaviour there was hardly any interaction between me and them, so its difficult to comment. They would take down your credit card details thinking that you may run away after consuming from the mini-bar. Such are the hotel policies - very insulting that there was no trust between the boarders and the hotel management.
The room was shabbily decorated and lighting was so inadequate that you are bound to have a headache if you are not blind. The bathroom was big compared to European standards (which I find very funny, that even the five-stars are skimpy on their bathroom sizes), and in our case the tap over the basin didn't function and no steps were taken after complaints.
The lobby is always teeming with people and in order to have a conversation, it is not the right place. There are better choices out there in Budapest.

Room Tip: Chhose the front ones

This is the kind of hotel you can stay in if you need to spend a night near the Budapest train station and are not fussy about rooms. I stayed two nights on seperate occasions, and got one decent and modern, renovated room and one room with a terribly grotty bathroom. But the price is reasonable and you can't complain about location either.

We have just returned from Budapest and stayed at the Golden Park. There was three of us in two rooms. I will agree with some other reviews that its not a four star but being that we Visit Budapest a lot you get to know what to expect. You also get what you pay for and this place is not expensive. We had a fab time. The staff where grate. Its in a very good position for sight seeing and there is a grate little bar across the other side of the road. Now if you want a four star hotel stop being so cheap. Pay that bit extra but if you want a reasonable hotel in a grate location. This is the place for you. We will return.

This was my second time at the Golden Park Hotel in 3 years. I returned due to its convenient location for my plans, and this time the room I got was much nicer than the first time, and the view was great. However, the bathroom still had draining problems (last time the shower, now the sink). The color of the towels was questionable, the once white towels were off-white and worn.

Staff was friendly and accommodating, and spoke English. They even thanked me for returning when they found out I've been a guest before. It's a good hotel to be used as a base camp for exploring Budapest, but probably not 4* as per North-American standards. The posted prices for rooms if you just walk into the hotel are very high, higher than some 5* hotels I've stayed at. The neighborhood gets noisy in the evening, and due to the hotel's proximity to the train station, there are all kinds of people in the area.

I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic occasion, but if it's just a place to put your head down and you book it on-line, it is worth the money.

My biggest gripe about this hotel is that it calls itself 4 star. This rating (and the high room rates) lead you to expect a certain level of quality and comfort that simply is not there. It is (in my opinion) only just worth a 3 star rating. I say this as the double room my parents shared was very small. There was hardly any space to move around the bed. The TV was about 25 years old with limited English channels. One of the towels had a big hole in it. The breakfast was, quite frankly, bad. On day one they seemed to have run out of pretty much everything. Even water. The coffee was awful and the dinning area was packed. I felt like I was in a school hostel. On the plus side, I must say that the staff at the reception desk (those who could speak English) were extremely helpful and friendly. This was the only time I felt like I was in a proper hotel. – If you just need a place to put your stuff for a night or two, or want to be close to a central train station, this hotel is fine ... but if you want value for money and a pleasant room ... look elsewhere.

Booked 3 rooms for 5 of us at a very reasonable price, hotel staff were very pleasant and polite. Hotel itself was clean , although some parts maybe could have been updated i.e carpets. Good hearty continental breakfast which was kept replenished. Right opposite train station and a slight walk from Danube and other attractions, but Tram links right outside.
Overall had a lovely stay and would stay there again.
