The views are spectacular from up here, but be warned, it is a long and steep climb even for me who is relatively fit - good shoes are strongly recommended. It is easy enough to find the start of the climb, near the cave almost opposite the entrance to the Gellert Spa and the path winds through many green and pleasant areas with views of the river as it meanders below. Once at the top you will find the enormous statue sitting proudly at the top and as you wander further up, the Citadel with its even more amazing views and various stalls selling clothing, artwork etc - worth a wander. Thankfully the climb down is a lot easier!

We walked up here on one of the walking tours we did. There is a great view point back of Buda. The history around the area is incredible and something we should all take the time to learn a little bit about.
Make sure you have your camera with you, you’ll need it to capture the view from the top.

Gellert Hill by itself is not that much of an attraction. To get the full experience of it, I would recommend that you hit Gellért Hill Cave Chapel for the religious experience and watch Liberty Bridge from its deck, immerse yourself in either Gellért or Rudas hotspring spa for half of a day, then take a bus (only available on city tour companies) to the Citadella to see the panoramic view of Budapest. The Citadella can be accessed by foot but it will be quite a climb.

We stopped on the other side of river to Gellert Hill, so we took a couple of hours to walk to it.
A winding fairly steep climb, but not to bad, with fantastic views of Pest all the way up,( but if you prefer a bus can get you up there) and well worth the effort on arrival at the top.
The statues are fantastic and the building impressive...highly recommended to do.

I followed a route that starts near Gellert Baths , after crossing the Freedom Bridge and then I followed the marked routes. On the route there is a cave that is transformed into a religious sanctuary (I found it a bit sinister) and many places from which you can take beautiful photos at Pesta. I was disappointed when I reached the top of the hill to see a typical communist statue - the Fortress / Statue of Liberty / Szabadsag Szobor. The hill was named in honor of Bishop Gellert (Gerard) who helped King Stephen to Christianize the Hungarian population, but was killed by his opponents. In order to honor his contribution to the Christian process, a statue representing the bishop was placed above an artificial waterfall.
