“Excellent also for the Gellert Hotel”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

Worth going up to check out the statue, but don't miss the very famous Gellert Hotel whilst in the area! Don your costumes and swim amongst statues, columns and gargoyle fountains and go right back in time. Lots of swimming pools in this hotel and also lots of really warm thermal baths both inside and on the rooftop where lunch can be bought from the restaurant. Expect to pay £15 to enter inside the baths and you will have to pay for a bathing cap too. Best to go in your cossies as a "cabin" is extra if you need to change your clothes. Beware too the locking systems of the lockers. Do make sure you hear the click of the back of the watch they give you otherwise you could walk off thinking you've locked everything up safely and the locker could still be open!

Once again able to take amazing photos of both Buda and Pest from the top of Gellert Hill, both during the day and at night

“A hillside monument”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Gellert, a medieval monk, attempted to baptise the unruly heathens that Hungarians were and ended up being rolled down the hill straight into the Danube. Smart? Probably not. Brave? Insanely. Meriting a huge monument? Well...
If you are taking the castle-Citadel route, this bit of art-meets-history is on your way and should be checked out. The problem is, the monument cannot be fully admired from vicinity and it is perhaps best seen from a certain distance.

“Liked it”

I knew I wanted to stand under the statue from the first day in Budapest, but getting there is a challenge if you don't have hop-on-off ticket. There is a public bus (number 27) going to the top of the hill, but the initial stop in the city is hard to find.
The view is very nice and it's good to see both: this one and that from the Royal Castle to have the comparison.

“nice view”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

You get a nice view from Pest near the statue. You can sit there too. The walk up is not too long and the hill not too steep.
