“Good, but not great for larger animal welfare”
Reviewed March 21, 2014

First of all, we wanted to visit this zoo because we read there was a polar bear - and my husband has always dreamed of seeing one. We arrived to an empty enclosure, and couldn't find any information and ended up asking a shop assistant what happened and learned that the polar bear passed away in January - we couldn't find ANY information about this online, so please be aware of this.

When it comes to the smaller animals, this is a great zoo. Larger animals however seemed somewhat lacking in proper care and attention to their environment.. the lions for example were crammed into quite a barren enclosure which seemed at odds with preservation of the animal's natural habitat. Maybe I've just been spoilt having grown up near Colchester Zoo where the care and welfare of animals is nothing short of stellar.

Worth a visit if you're a fan of zoos in general, though the cramped conditions for larger animals may leave some feeling uneasy.

“WORTH A VISIT”
Reviewed March 21, 2014

We love zoo's so this was a must for our party. Nicely laid out and had a great selection of animals, repitles, birds etc., entrance was reasonable. One minor point none of the information on the animals was in English.

“Pretty Good”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

Went on a quiet day and had a brilliant time. The sloth enclosure is extremely memorable and worth the price of admission alone. Some of the sizes and conditions of the enclosures was a bit concerning though.

“DISGUSTING”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

This place should be closed down immediately... or taken over by someone who genuinely cares about animals.
we found that the smaller animals enclosures were absolutely fine as zoo's go but as we started getting to the bigger animals lions.. tigers... elephants etc we quickly realized that this wasn't a pl;ace for well looked after animals.

The lion enclosure was just a tiny mud pit not much space for the many lions they had in there and terrible terrible conditions....
the tigers didn't even have any grass the mother of two cubs was just pacing back and fourth looking very depressed ... the cubs were too young to have realized the sheer lack of care yet.
a bit further on there was a male tiger alone and again pacing walking in circles.

Hyena's
one was incredible injured looked like a chunk had been taken out of its lower back above the tail. the poor thing could not settle it was running around clearly in pain whimpering... i didnt see anyone who looked like they cared.

as far as we were aware there was supposed to be a polar bear....it was not there.
however the enclosure was still there. a concrete cell.
I can only guess that this animal died due to the sheer lack of any care or nurture it deserved..... how dare anyone keep a beautiful polar bear on a concrete slab with a little pool of water.

The elephants.
the only elephants we saw were outside.. a mother and calf.
the mother stood at the huge metal door trying to open it with her trunk... calf under her.
we went and told one of the keepers she wanted to go inside he was very rude and reluctantly let her in... probably to keep us from complaining.

Fennec fox.
i saw what looked like to be a hour old baby fennec fox under a heat lamp on harsh gravel mother at the other side of the enclosure clearly wanted nothing to do with it so the baby had just been left... no attention.... no care or attempt to feed it.

I decided to then leave... id seen enough... THEY NEED REPORTING
