“A Full Day”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

You can certainly spend a long time at the Zoo. It has a good spread. There are some interesting features and some exotic and rare stuff but you feel parts are neglected as ' that will do' and other parts are works in progress. I would agree the overall standard of care is not as good as one would wish but there was nothing to horrify the kids, just felt a bit run down in places. Feeding the elephants is fun.
Good value

“We liked it, but think the icebear prefer Greenland”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

The zoo in BERLIN became famous for It's icebear but don't Think the zoo in Budapest does the same. The Bear seem to walk round and round doing and didn't seem happy.
But otherwise we thought the place was nice. Lots to look at for the small children.
Very difficult to find icecreams (maybe because it was in martz) but we found food that was okay.
Its possible to lend a small waggon for the kids and that might be a good thing because th zoo is pretty big.
Nice playground outside the zoo

“Disappointing Animal Care.”
Reviewed March 12, 2013 via mobile

Lonely Planet described this place as having 'world class' animal houses and described it as a nature reserve. I have to say that as a lover of animals I was bitterly disappointed to the point where I felt upset at paying to get in and supporting this place.

The majority of the animals looked bored and had poor enclosures, small and dirty looking. The polar bear looked incredibly sad and paced up and down the same bit all day. The indoor animal enclosures absolutely stunk and were being hosed down, not thoroughly cleaned properly. Sloths were left to roam without supervision, fine if your responsible but I wouldn't trust half the general public as some people will always prod and poke.

The only redeeming feature was the good aquarium and lovely farm animals that you could touch and feed.

I feel guilty for visiting and giving profit to this place and would not recommend it.

“great architecture, disappointing service”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

Budapest Zoo is full of architectural masterpieces (some of them are Art Nouveau, some of them are contemporary). The rest is very old, shabby, and needs renovation. Animals are cute of course:)
