It’s a great place to have the Budapest view. You can see both Buda and Pest and the bridges on the Danua river.

I walked up to the Citadel or Citadella which is situated on Gellert Hill. It is a fortress and there is also the Liberation Monument in front of it. Amazing views of the Danube and Pest.

Citadel is an old fortress built many hundreds of years ago by the then rulers to oversee the city of Budapest as well as surrounding areas. There are 2 different ways to reach to the top-using transportation (bus/ taxi) or climbing to the top. The climb up is tough especially if you are not used to physical activity - ofcourse there are proper steps and path to the top. But the reward after reaching the top is brilliant - wonderful views of the entire Danube, the tourist ships docked in Budapest, the majestic Parliament building and ofcourse the thriving city of Budapest.

My suggestion to people is to go late in the evening, so that they can enjoy the sun setting and the city lighting up. The views at the top are brilliant and words cannot do justice to the same.

I climbed up to the citadel in Budapest. The views of the Danube and the city were simply wonderful on the way up and from the top. A truly refreshing climb on a sunny autumn day in November.

I am happy that I read some reviews: I was in Budapest only for a weekend and made it a point to visit here. Bought a 24hr ticket in a hop-on hop-off bus and it takes you right to the top although the walk doesn't seem bad either.

I went before sunset and managed to catch best of both worlds. You get lovely panoramic views of Budapest. Definitely worth a visit if in Budapest

The citadel itself is really nothing special, but the view is spectacular, especially if you choose a sunny day! We also enjoyed the walk in the park behind the Citadel, where there is also a playground for children, visited by many hungarian families

The walk up to the top isn't for the faint hearted. We said to each other the view better be worth it. It most definitely was. Absolutely stunning. The city is at its best at night, all lit up and there is no better place to view it than here. If you're in Budapest you MUST reach the summit at night. You won't regret it.

Well worth the walk up all those steps from the riverside to experience spectacular views across the city. Did not realise there was a back way up via a road (mostly used by coach tours) until we reached the top! Walked back down the road and came across a sculpture of Prince Buda and Princess Pest and the city below them, not sure how many people realise this is here.

No visit to Budapest can be complete without a visit to the Citadella. The views of the city from this hill is breathtaking. Just remember to carry some food because there is nothing to eat except a couple of stalls selling overpriced food of lower quality.
