“SunnyGlen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

When the Hungarians took down the oppressive Communist statutes posing as "art," they did not destroy them, but moved them to this park, located in the suburbs of Buda. It's a 30 minute tram / bus ride, but it is well worth it. Get a guidebook and read how the park was designed and the symbolism behind the design will be obvious. The park is marked by Stalin's empty boots.

“Like nowhere we've been before”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

Despite having to venture out of the centre we were determined to visit this place and weren't disappointed. The transport was actually very easy to navigate and gave us a chance to see a slightly different side of Budapest away from the crowds. The park itself was fascinating and the overbearing statues could be both beautiful works yet oppressive at the same time. The exhibition area was also running an hour long documentary showing a Soviet secret agent training dvd which was eye-opening and worth sitting through.

Dear HelenMcW,

"Like nowhere we've been before" - To start the day with such a compliment is excellent. Thank you for that.
After reading all the superlatives written by you regarding our museum, I'm sure you had a great time here and you think it's a unique place. Let your worlds speak for themselves, this is far enough to convince those who still hesitate to visit us.

Hope to see you once again.
Kindest regards,

Memento Park staff

“A Fitting Tribute to Communism”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

A good was out of the city centre Memento Park is a small collection of Communist statuary with big ambitions.

A bit like communism it looks as though it started with grand ideals and then ran out of steam and money.

I found it interesting, informative and amusing.

Well worth a trip.

“How to get there by a direct bus transfer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

The park is about 20 minutes from the city center by car or bus. You can get there using a public transportation or by using a direct bus transfer. I used the direct bus transfer since it is a lot more convenient. If you want to take a direct bus, here are a few tips.
- The bus leaves from Deak Square at 11 AM daily. The bus stop for this is the same bus stop for Hop on Hop off bus stop on Erzsebet ter. There is a "Memento Park" sign posted at the bus stop. Get there around 10:45 AM and someone from Memento Park (they wear a name tag saying Memento Park) will walk around asking if you want to take a bus.
- You don't need to make a reservation and you pay the fee on the bus after boarding. The fee includes a roundtrip transportation and an admission fee to the park. Please make sure to bring cash. It costs 4,900 HUF per person. If you have a Budapest Card, you get a discount.
- The whole trip lasts about 2.5 hours including travel time.
- When you get to the park, you will have about 1.5 hour to explore the park and the museum.
- There is no cafe at the park. They sell drinks at the ticket counter.
- The ticket counter is also a souvenir shop and they take credit card.
- There is a free WIFI in the park and you can get access code at the waiting area inside the park.
- The return bus leaves at 1 PM and take you back to Deak Square.
- Make sure to watch the Life of an Agent film at the museum.
- Get more info about the park at http://www.mementopark.hu/pages/home/?lang=en.

“Recent history of Hungary”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

This park is interesting if you're interested in learning more about the recent history of Hungary. There is a good collection of Soviet-era monuments that were removed from its original location and placed in this park. We caught the bus No. 150 near the Allee Shopping Centre and it takes 25-30 minutes to reach Memento Park. The exhibition is very informative and there is also a movie with relevant information. There are toilets in the park without paying. Interesting to know the history of Hungary.
