The monument celebrates the millennium of Magyar rule. It sits at the entrance to City Park at the and of Andrassy Avenue in the east of the city. Wide open square is dominated by the monument. Worth a look if you have time in Budapest.

Heroes Square is impressive. With the space it stands on and all the columns and statues, it can’t help but dazzle and humble you a bit. We had our Rick Steve’s book to explain all the statuary but even without, the detail and size will dazzle. Then head into the park right there where the replica Transylvanian castle is. Cool place!

We visited the Square several times during our stay in Budapest, always on buses with narrators. It is a moving place, flanked by beautiful museum buildings, the man-made lake, and a virtual Embassy Row. It is the start of the Big Bus Hop on/Hop off tour (though one can board at any stop) and definitely worth a visit.

Heros' Square is a national monument depicting the founding of the country and its most important kings and leaders. But it is also the center of an important attraction area. The City Park starts there with lots of green and walkways. There is Europe's oldest Zoo nicley renovated. The Museum of Fine arts and Exhibition Hall with periodic fine art exhibitions. For the thermal lovers, the Széchenyi Bath is also there. It can be easily reached by Europe's first underground that runs from downtown Pest and connected to two major metro lines.
