“Nice place”

It is one of the places in Budapest which obligatory to visit at least once for everybody. Not for from the Hero's square you may find the Szecsenyi Baths. Do not think - go there.

“Come with a guide or guidebook”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Heroes Squares captures a lot of the rich and challenging history of Hungary in one spot. A visit to Budapest without a visit to Heroes Square would be shortchanging your trip. However, unless you have a good guide or a guidebook that explains what you are seeing in all the busts, statues, and national symbols, you will not get much out of this impressive area. A little bit of advance preparation and reading will pay off here.

The site is relatively easy to get to via the Millenium (Yellow) line on the metro. Nearby are other stops that you might want to consider: the City Park, the zoo, Gundel restaurant, the Szechenyi baths, and more.

There is no cost to visit the Square.

Visited on a fine, sunny day. The dimensions are impressive. Building in those days was on a magnificent scale. Worth a visit but make sure the weather is fine.

To your average tourist hitting the high points in Budapest, this place is nothing extraordinary, but to hear some of the history from a local, that indeed is worth the visit. I would highly recommend a visit to this area. Take some time to soak it in and imagine what it was like the morning when heroes were born.

“Hero's Square”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

On a rainy day it still makes a strong statement, or maybe even more so as there are few heros without death and foreboding weather suits it well.
