“Astonishing structure.”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

Took 50 years to build this place. Not surprising when you see the handworks at the stained glasses, drawings and sculptures. It is nearly as good as the ones at Italy and France. You can spend a wonderful hour inside. Highly recommended.

“Even better than basilic in Venice!”
Reviewed February 4, 2013

This magnificent sacral building had a great impact on me. I must say that breadth of this building may be overwhelming. Golden ceilings, altars and marble collumns - everything is really woth seeing. It is a good idea to go here on Sundays mass.

“Another of Your Budapest Must Do's”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Don't miss seeing this beautiful building a small donation should be left for entering.

Additionally you can walk up or take the elevator to the top of the cupola for some great 360 degree views of Budapest

A visit is recommended on a clear day if possible

I was so taken aback when I walked into the basilica! It leaves you speechless! The church is beautiful, decorated in gold. The dome is breathtaking. I was overcome by a sense of spirituality and inner peace while exploring the church and taking in the architecture and detail. A definite MUST SEE in Budapest! Yes, there is a minimal donation to enter.

“One of the more impressive churches of Europe”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

We visited here on a Sunday morning during a service and found it very impressive. Beautiful architecture and an impressive organ (both visually and audibly) make it definitely worth a visit. The entrance is only a 200 forint donation (less than $1) and I'd say there's no reason to not do it.

The building was designed by Miklos Ybl, who also designed the Hungarian State Opera House and several other prominent buildings in Budapest. There are many similarities between the Opera House and the Basilica, so if you don't have the chance to go to the Opera House, the Basilica is a good alternative that costs almost nothing.
