The Parliament is one of the top sights in Budapest, and worth a visit inside, which must be done on a guided tour. We took the guidebook's advice and booked an English language tour on-line the day before, as the number of tickets for each tour is limited. Give yourself extra time to find the location outside from which the tour departs, because the ongoing construction around the building obstructs some of the surrounding sidewalks. You can take photos inside the building, but not in the room with the crown jewels.

Apart from the construction site surrounding the building its quite a spectacular piece of architecture. The tour is well worth it and gives you a sense of Hungarian history.

The Parliament was under a lot of renovation. We waited for the next guided tour. The Guide speaks English very well and very informative. You get to see the actual room where sessions are held. Very lavishly decorated for a parliament house.

We got access to the Parliament thru a tour. I don't think you can go in on your own. The inside rivals the Hofburg palace in Vienna and is, I think, the largest Parliament building in the world. To say it is opulent is an understatement. Coming up on it's 100 year anniversary, the city is making improvements to all the surrounding area for the planned celebration. Budapest is extremely proud of this structure and it is well worth the cost of the tour to get inside for a visit.we got to witness the changing of the guard( they guard the crown of St Stephen among other things) was fun to watch. It still has that communist era feel,to it all.

There is a conducted tour of the Parliament which would suggest one takes.

What is special? The building is very imposing, the interiors done up very richly for a Parliament House, the guide will also take you through the history which is interesting.

Do see the building from the Buda side Fisherman Bastion has a great view. At night time when the building is lit the view from the boats on the river which take you past the Parliament is spectacular.
