“Great Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013 via mobile

The tour in the synagogue was a great experience hearing about the building along with the torn history through the years.

As there are a number of groups of different languages, it can get busy and hard to hear the guides. The English group we were in was quite large which can take away from the experience.

The graveyard and victims wall is a sight and a reminder of past times as the history is unveiled through the tour.

A must experience in Budapest.

“Very interesting and moving visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013 via mobile

A lovely building with an interesting history. It is worth remembering that it wasn't just the Jews in Germany and Poland who were affected during the second world war but people all over Europe suffered at the hands of the Nazis. An interesting and modern memorial to these atrocities is well worth visiting.

“Spectacular”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013

Probably the largest European synagogue, beautifully restored. Built about 100 years ago with great abandon, in almost gothic style. A miracle that it survived the fascists, bombing, communists and attempts by todays' extreme right to damage it.

“Otherwise known as the Dohany Street Synagogue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

Synagogues in Budapest are named after the streets they are on, so the guide books we have did not use the title ascribed to this review...nonetheless totally worth visiting....largest synagogue in Europe -- seats 3,000 -- beautifully restored despite it being shelled during WWII, especially because the Nazis who headquartered here wrote on the roof, do not bomb, Nazi headquarters....beautiful decor and definitely worth the visit, especially if you are one to visit synagogues worldwide.

“A great remembrance to a terrible time in world history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

Good tour of the synagogue and explanations of the mass graves adjacent to the synagogue as well as the history and results of the great war on the area. I would highly recommend this to everyone who loves war history. I have seen pictures of the holocaust before on different occasions but never have I been so emotionally charged as when I visited this Center.
