Owner description: The world's second-largest synagogue, featuring a room that holds three thousand people, is a center for the large Jewish community of Budapest.

The Central Synagogue is the largest I know in east Europe. The architecture is very unique and impressive. The interiors are in very good condition and one can imagine the size and activities of the Jewish community in Budapest prior to WW II. Do not miss the Holocaust memorial monument in the synagogue yard. The downside is the high entrance fees to the synagogue.

I found the Synagogue dark and forbidding with the weight of its terrible history evident. It's a beautiful building. Security at the entrance understandable but efficiently and cheerfully carried out. By contrast, once past security, staff slightly officious and cold

Beautiful Synagogue, but when we went, lots of things were shut, either due to just being "off limits" and also due to refurbishment works. Whilst I appreciate as a religious building, they are entitled to do this and refurbishing is necessary, I wish I was told BEFORE I purchased the expensive ticket, that at least half of the attractions were inaccessible or closed completely. Synagogue itself was pretty inside, but not worth the entrance fee. Check when you go that all the exhibits will be open, or ask for a reduced fee, otherwise, like us, you will be wasting money.

Not that impressive unfortunately and about £7 to enter. Sorry but it's not worth it. Just have a look at the outside.

Inside the synagogue is very beautiful. The ghetto wall that is in the courtyard of the cemetery transports you into a time that is unimaginable. The Raoul Wallenberg Holocaust Memorial Park that is located on the premises brings light to an event in history that is so dark. I think it is something worth seeing. Makes you think. gibsonchop.com
