“Great Building, shame about the Opera.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2014

The building is truly stunning and clearly Budapest society takes it seriously as everyone was dressed up. But the house has some strange aspects, the seats are unnumbered so finding seats is messy and they insist you check in your coat. (although you can ignore the entreaties as we did!!)
We saw La Boheme which was very poor. The actors needed to come to the front of the stage to sing, which meant they were standing in a line. This works for some parts but is ridiculous when the couple are falling in love but not looking at each other. Acts 2 and 3 were confused and the Italian was not particularly good. In contrast the music was excellant.
Certainly worth a visit when in Budapest.

“Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 18, 2014

Decided to go and see an opera rather than book the guided tour because it was possible to get ok seats for less money. Very pleased that we did. The performance was very high standard and the building itself is beautiful. The musicians were very impressive. Tip: You have to pay to store your coats and they won't let you take them in with you.

“Most beautiful interiors in Budapest”

Did the guided tour. The building is stunning and worth seeing. The tour is not cheap. There are even operas/concert tickets that are cheaper so rather book to see something than do the tour.

“Gem of Imperial Style”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2014

What a pretty little opera house! It is intimate, the acoustics are excellent, the music, the scenery, the voices and the overall look of the production are all wonderful. We saw "La Boheme" and it was beautifully done. The only thing I was surprised about was the fact that, although we had a box, we were not allowed to bring a drink inside. Frankly, what is the point of having a box if you cannot be comfortable? Never mind, that didn't spoil our evening.

Nothing to say but amazing! The Opera House is beautiful. The ballet was such a great experience for our daughter and it was just a very good evening.
