This is a superb museum which holds a lot of history. It's very well laid out, and although it won't be to everyones taste, for the history buff, this is gold.

Quite a maze, you really need to take time to read, and take it all in. There is literally something for everyone - whichever period of history floats your boat.

There are a lot of displays related to Christian faith, and reference to Islam, and a great comparable section between the two.

A small cafe is on site also.

The museum is located under the palace and has 2 entrances with the first at the base of the palace and the second on the upper street level. There is an elevator to access all levels of the museum if you require it. It is best to start at the lowest level and work you way up through history. Each level covers a different period in the history of Budapest. Washrooms are available on each level and there is a coffee shop on the street level near the entrance. If you want to take photos you need to pay extra for a special ticket. Allow around 2 hours to visit the museum.

My husband and I wandered in through a door and found ourselves in a museum. We were able to use our Budapest Card and we wandered about before we went up floors and found more things on interest and more about the history of Budapest.

One thing I did notice was the views out some of the windows were amazing. I really enjoyed that aspect.

Packed with artefacts the exhibitions give a great insight to a rich and complex history.

This is generally a more traditional style museum and less interactive displays. For history lovers a great place for a few hours.

It also offers stunning views across the city.

Well worth a visit.

We made the mistake of starting our tour of this museum in floor -2 where the old bits of stone work are displayed.
The exhibitions on the 2nd and 1st floor were excellent but by then we were tired out from reading too much dry info.
The history of the city on the 1st floor was fantastic and lots of relevant artefacts to back it up.
Just wish we had started there and spared ourselves the basement.
If broken stone work is your thing go for it otherwise start high.

We've decided to visit it as it was included in Budapest Card. It was difficult to find the entrance. Exhibits are located on many floors. I found few interesting photos about metro, but most of the exhibition was not very interesting. I would like to see more interactive exhibits. Staff wasn't very helpful.

The entrance to the maginificent building held a great promise for what's to come. Alas, the disappointment was evident quickly. The layout was very confusing and instead if a historic sequential exhibits, you get whiplashed by going from pre- historic to 1956 and then back to earlier eras. Too many replicas of originals and the video displays were either out if order or poor quality.

Claustrophobic , Some artifacts are fake , There are so many stairs that are unnecessary
It's more like the Art History Museum, Not even that.

Visited with wife and family. It gives a great insight into the way Budapest has been shaped over the years. At only 6 euros for an adult it is great value. Has lifts for wheelchair access but not all areas wheelchair accessable. If you wish too take photos you have to pay a little extra but only about 1 euro.

A nice collection of the history of Budapest. Not a large amount but just right. You do have to pay extra if you want to take photos.
