Well. I'm not an experienced tourist. For me this place would REQUIRE a guide. Otherwise you will be looking at a lot of beautiful statues without knowing what or who they are all about. There is a LOT of walking on cobblestones and climbing stairs. And it is BIG. So just meandering around is not the way to go. After I had been there I read a lot on the Internet about this place. So having someone knowledgable about its history would be so much better to go with you. We went by "Hop On Hop Off " bus that has recorded tours that are informational in all languages BUT the go by fast. So I we'd suggest you go on the round trip once (2 hrs) ,determine where u want to get off the next time around, do some research on a guide and then go around again. This bus tour is inexpensive and it is for two days and also has access to the boats on the river.

The Castle building is a large and cold monstrum, now half empty, half housing the National Gallery and possibly still the National Library. The surroundings are very tacky: low-quality and smelly cafe/restaurant at the base of the entrance to the National Gallery, rows of low-quality, "hungaricum"-peddling wooden huts facing the residence of the president of the republic, difficult-to-walk pavements and a splendid view over Buda on one side and Pest on the other. Overall, a rather tacky medley of things, but overall of a cheap touristy kind. the Nationla Gallery has exceleltn exhibitions - but is a bit pricey.

We saw the Royal Palace as part of a walking tour, so we only saw the outside. It was very pretty, and there was good views over Pest.

This is a nice walking area but really touristy. Make sure to eat before you go! The views are great but most of the buildings have been rebuilt.

Not really royal and not really a palace. If you like museums, you'll enjoy it. If you're looking for the beautiful mosaics, ornate furniture, ceiling paintings, and lurid royal behavior, you won't find it here. Good looking building from Pest and good for pictures.
