The bastion offers incredible views across the river at the Pest side of the city, particularly the Parliament building. You can walk along the walls and there are a few staircases to climb for better views as well. Lots of it is pay-to-enter or just reserved for cafes/restaurants, and it's all very crowded but definitely worth wandering along, especially if you are in the Var area anyway.

The bastion looks a bit like from a fairytale, there is a bit of Disneyland-kitsch in it, but altogether it's absolutely worth visiting. The view of the city and the parliament is excellent and the small towers are eye-catching.

A warning: don't buy tickets. This is a complete rip-off, you have to wait in a queue to have your ticket checked, than you climb to a short passage upstairs, which is usually terribly crowded by people taking photos. After several steps the passage is over and you proceed to the exit. Actually, there is a higher tower a few meters further with more free place to stand and no tickets to pay - crowds somehow choose the paid part.

It was a real treat to head up there and take in the views of the city. I suggest stopping for some lunch and having a lazy day mooching about and taking in the hostory and views from here.

Also for a public space the toilets are exceptionally clean. there were weddings going on so we couldnt visit the church.

I liked the architecture of this monument. You can pay a fee to enter to the second level but it does not make a big difference.
