Great place for a walk with your loved one(s). Nice restaurants, too! Lots of road works ongoing when we were there (late October '13).

“Very Beautiful”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

Amazing , clean , beautiful area with beautiful buildings. Beautiful view all around. Pricier than Pest side. I did not like the fact that cheeky waiters putting 15 to 20 % service charge on every bill.

“This world heritage site is an absolute must if you are in Budapest!”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

Over the Chain bridge and up the funicular- it was very easy to come to this beautiful place!
There was much to see: The national gallery (with a wonderful Chagall exhibition) the stunning Matthias church and the absolutely breath-taking view over Budapest from the Fisherman´s bastion. This is a place we had not heard so much about before we went to Budapest, but it was certainly one of the top experiences.

The area - which can be reached from the Chain Bridge either by bus, on foot or (as I opted for) the funicular railway - is delightful. The views of the Pest side of the river are stunning (even on a cloudy day) - especially from the Fisherman's Bastion. Matthias Church is well-worth a visit if only for the beautiful stained glass windows (1000 HUF admission fee). There are also plenty of bars and restaurants in the picturesque streets.

It is worth having a coffee in the Hilton café which overlooks the inside of the ruined chapel (around which the hotel was built) - with the Parliament building as a backdrop. If you walk to the back of the Hilton, you can also go inside the chapel remains.

In short, allow at least half a day - longer if you want to visit two or more of the museums in the area.
