Owner description: Lovingly restored after being reduced to rubble during World War II, this picturesque area is located in the heart of medieval Budapest, which is characterized by cobblestone streets, narrow alleys and lovely squares surrounded by baroque and classical buildings.

We went to the museums, but they are quite a different league than other famous museums. Especially the history museum is quite disappointing. It is closed on mondays.

I liked strolling on the castle hill because it's pleasantly green (well especially in spring), not too difficult to climb on top of it and it's rather small - you can take a tour in just an hour and see all the major sights it's packed with : the King's palace (where are located two main museums), the President's house, the Cathedral, the Fishermen fort and so on. From the Palace's terasse you can enjoy amazing views of Pest dominated by Parliament, Danube and its bridges. Don't miss it! What I also very much enjoyed was a walk on the city walls encircling all the castle area. I especially liked the constrast between the views of the very plain Pest District (from the Palace terasses or from Fishermen fort) and the hills of Buda and Obuda you can see from the other side of the Castle hill. And one final recommendation : if you are not extremely tired, there's no need to take the funicular, it is rather easy to climb on top of the hill enjoying the changing panoramas as you get higher..(and the ticket is anyway quite expensive for the two minutes you'll actually spend in the funicular).

We only did half of what could be done there! It probably needs a full day...with no rain.
We went to see Mathias Church and the Hospital in the Rock. We didn't go into the museums, as the wait was too long and it was too cold. I would recommend this for sure!

Whether you climb or get the funicular up to the top, you must come here when in Buda. Stunning views, beautiful buildings, just make sure you keep walking to see Fishermans bastion and Matthias Church.

A lot of beautiful things to see, all nearby. The change of the guards, Matthias Kirche, Fisherman's bastion, National Gallery, the oldest coffee house, ... pharmacist's museum, enough to spend the day!
